Braves activated RHP Michael Tonkin from the 15-day injured list.

Jun 08   11:36 AM

The right-hander has been shelved since late May due to a neck strain, but he made it through a minor league rehab assignment without issue and is ready to rejoin the Braves’ bullpen. Roddery Munoz was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Braves optioned RHP Roddery Munoz to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Jun 08   11:36 AM

With Michael Tonkin returning from the injured list on Thursday, the Braves needed to free up a spot in the bullpen and Munoz was the odd-man out. He’ll bide his time at Triple-A until another opportunity arises.

Dodgers placed RHP Noah Syndergaard on the 15-day injured list with a blister on his right index finger.

Jun 08   11:20 AM

Dodgers skipper Dave Robert’s told reporters after Wednesday’s start that Syndergaard was dealing with the issue, so this isn’t a huge surprise. It could also be an easy way to simply ease him out of the rotation after 12 atrocious starts. Tayler Scott was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Dodgers recalled RHP Tayler Scott from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Jun 08   11:20 AM

Once again Scott will return to provide a fresh arm in the Dodgers bullpen with Noah Syndergaard (blister) landing on the injured list. He’ll be up at least until the Dodgers figure out how to handle Syndergaard’s spot in the rotation the next time through.

Yandy Díaz is absent from the Rays’ starting lineup for the second straight day on Thursday.

Jun 08   10:46 AM

There hasn’t been any word yet about any sort of illness or injury, but it’s definitely odd to see the hot-hitting Díaz stationed on the pine two days in a row. Luke Raley will start at first base and bat cleanup for the Rays on Thursday afternoon.

Rays recalled RHP Yonny Chirinos from Triple-A Durham.

Jun 08   10:11 AM

The right-hander will slide back into the Rays' rotation to take on the Twins on Thursday afternoon, with Tyler Glasnow moving back to Friday. The 29-year-old hurler has done a nice job in seven appearances (one start) with the Rays this season -- posting a 2.79 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and an 11/11 K/BB ratio across 29 innings.

Rays optioned RHP Cooper Criswell to Triple-A Durham.

Jun 08   10:11 AM

With Yonny Chirinos recalled to start on Thursday for the Rays, someone needed to get bumped from the active roster and it looks like Criswell drew the short straw this time around. The 26-year-old hurler has registered a 6.11 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and an 18/6 K/BB ratio over 17 2/3 innings with the Rays this season.

Tyler Glasnow will have his next start pushed back a day from Thursday to Friday.

Jun 08   10:11 AM

Originally, Glasnow had been lined up to take on the Twins on Thursday afternoon, but the Rays recalled Yonny Chirinos to make that start instead -- opting to give Glasnow an extra day of rest. He'll now take on the Rangers at home on Friday night. Through his first two starts on the season, the right-hander has registered a 3.72 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 14/4 K/BB ratio across 9 2/3 innings.

Will Smith is absent from the Dodgers' starting lineup for Thursday's battle against the Reds.

Jun 08   9:51 AM

It appears to be nothing more than a regular day of rest for Smith being a day game after a night game. With J.D. Martinez locked into the designated hitter spot in the order, it has seemingly led to Smith getting more full days off this season -- much to the chagrin of fantasy managers. Austin Barnes will catch for Clayton Kershaw on Tuesday and bat ninth against Graham Ashcraft and the Reds.

Ketel Marte is not in the Diamondbacks' starting lineup for Thursday's matchup against the Nationals.

Jun 08   9:35 AM

It looks to be just a routine day of rest for the Diamondbacks' infielder. Marte is enjoying another solid season at the dish -- slashing .279/.341/.480 with nine homers, 25 RBI and six stolen bases through his first 58 games. Josh Rojas will start in his place at second base and bat sixth against right-hander Josiah Gray.

Jake Fraley (wrist) remains out of the Reds' starting lineup for Thursday afternoon's showdown against the Dodgers.

Jun 08   9:18 AM

Perhaps he would have taken a seat on Thursday anyways with veteran southpaw Clayton Kershaw toeing the slab for the Dodgers. Fraley was scratched from the Reds' lineup on Wednesday due to a right wrist contusion that he suffered when he was plunked by a pitch with the bases loaded in the ninth inning on Tuesday night. He's still considered day-to-day.

Jose Altuve (oblique) went 0-for-4 with a run scored in his return to the Astros' lineup on Wednesday.

Jun 08   8:44 AM

Altuve had missed the club's previous four games due to a lingering oblique issue. The 33-year-old is now hitting .261/.358/.457 with a pair of home runs and six RBI in his first 12 games since returning from the injured list.

Gunnar Henderson (back) went 1-for-3 with a single in his return to action on Wednesday night as the Orioles were walloped by the Brewers.

Jun 08   8:44 AM

As a team, the O's were only able to muster five hits in the contest, so it was nice to see the 21-year-old infielder snag one of them in his return to the lineup after missing the previous two games due to discomfort in his lower back. He's had a rough go at the dish this season -- hitting just .204/.328/.383 with six homers, 15 RBI, two stolen bases and a 59/29 K/BB ratio in 162 at-bats.

Dodgers' skipper Dave Roberts told reporters on Wednesday night that Noah Syndergaard is still battling a blister -- and also broke a fingernail during his dreadful start against the Reds.

Jun 08   8:22 AM

Roberts noted that Syndergaard doesn't want to make excuses for the continued poor performance, but it sounds like that's exactly what's going on here. Of course, the 30-year-old hurler could just be grasping at straws trying to keep his spot in the Dodgers' rotation -- or even on their roster for that matter. He holds a miserable 7.16 ERA and 1.45 WHIP across 55 1/3 innings through his first 12 starts with the Dodgers this season.

Matt Chapman (toe) went 0-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts in his return to the Blue Jays' lineup on Wednesday.

Jun 08   8:22 AM

He did at least draw a walk in the victory over the Astros. Chapman had been held out of the Jays' lineup on Tuesday after he had an infected ingrown toenail removed. He should be good to go moving forward.

Austin Slater went 2-for-2 with two RBI on Wednesday to help the Giants to a 5-4 win over the Rockies.

Jun 08   1:18 AM

Slater pinch-hit for Mike Yastrzemski with two runners on and no outs with left-hander Brent Suter out to pitch. He knocked a base hit to drive in the first run for the Giants and later came around to score. Slater hit another single in the eighth that brought in the game-tying run. The 30-year-old outfielder is hitting .378/.425/.514 with one homer and two steals across 40 plate appearances.

Jameson Taillon allowed four runs over five innings on Wednesday in a loss against the Angels.

Jun 08   12:28 AM

Taillon was through three scoreless innings until Mike Trout took him deep to lead off the fourth. Luis Rengifo added a solo blast in the fifth. Taillon walked a batter and gave up a single with one out in the sixth before his day was done. Both inherited runners would come in to score. The 31-year-old right-hander now holds an inflated 7.02 ERA, 1.54 WHIP, and 40 strikeouts across 42 1/3 innings. He'll look to turn things around his next time out in a matchup against the Pirates in Chicago next week.

Jaime Barria allowed two runs with three strikeouts across five innings on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Cubs.

Jun 08   12:28 AM

Barria was solid in his third start of the season. He kept the Angels in the game with just two runs allowed over five innings of work against the Cubs. Both runs would score in the fifth on three hits with no outs. Barria settled down to complete the frame before his day was done at 76 pitches. The 26-year-old right-hander holds a 1.85 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, and 37 strikeouts across 39 innings. He's currently in line for a start against the Rangers in Texas next week.

Mike Trout went 1-for-4 with a home run Wednesday against the Cubs.

Jun 08   12:28 AM

Trout broke a scoreless game in the fourth inning with a leadoff home run off of Jameson Taillon for his only hit of the game. The solo blast gives the 31-year-old star 14 on the year to go with a .265/.363/.500 slash line and 35 RBI across 262 plate appearances.

Michael Harris II went 3-for-4 with a homer, a double and three RBI in leading the Braves to a 7-5 win over the Mets on Wednesday.

Jun 08   12:10 AM

This is good to see. Harris's homer off Adam Ottavino traveled 443 feet, and his double left the bat at 104 mph. Probably in part due to his injuries, Harris has hit just .181/.261/.291 for the year. However, his Statcast numbers are better than that, and he's still managed to play strong defense in center field. There's a pretty good chance that he'll be a force the rest of the way.
