Teoscar Hernandez belted a go-ahead solo homer off of Brent Honeywell in the sixth inning on Tuesday night -- leading the Mariners to a 4-1 victory over the Padres.

Jun 07   2:26 AM

Hernandez also chipped in an RBI single in the eighth inning -- finishing the night 2-for-4. His bat has started to show signs of life in recent weeks, though overall the 30-year-old slugger is hitting just .246/.283/.422 with 10 homers and 32 RBI on the year.

Matt Mervis went 1-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBI on Tuesday night as the Cubs fell to the Angels in Los Angeles.

Jun 07   1:55 AM

Mervis smacked a two-run double off of Tyler Anderson in the second inning that increased the Cubs' early advantage to 4-0. That would be his lone hit in four at-bats on the night -- and the extent of the Cubs' offense. The rookie slugger has struggled in his first taste of MLB action -- slashing a disappointing .183/.256/.296 with two homers and nine RBI in his first 78 plate appearances.

Tyler Anderson picked up his third victory of the season on Tuesday evening, limiting the Cubs to four runs on five hits over his five frames.

Jun 07   1:55 AM

The left-hander issued three free passes on the night while striking out five. The Cubs got to him early in this one, with a pair of two-run knocks giving them a 4-0 advantage in the second inning, but Anderson battled back and finished his day with three scoreless frames to afford his club the opportunity to come back. Anderson got nine whiffs on 94 pitches in the contest, posting a CSW of 23 percent. He'll tote an unimpressive 5.62 ERA and 1.60 WHIP into Monday's battle against the Rangers in Arlington.

Carlos Estevez slammed the door on the Cubs in the ninth inning on Tuesday, preserving a three-run advantage to earn his 15th save of the season.

Jun 07   1:55 AM

It wasn't the smoothest of innings for Estevez, as he allowed a pair of singles to bring the potential tying run to the dish -- but was able to bear down and get Seiya Suzuki to strike out to end the ballgame. The right-hander has been terrific in the ninth inning for the Angels this season -- registering a 1.37 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and a 34/11 K/BB ratio across 26 1/3 innings of work.

Taylor Ward blasted his seventh home run of the season on Tuesday, helping to lead the Angels past the Cubs.

Jun 07   1:55 AM

Ward smacked his 401-foot (106.1 mph EV) solo shot off of Jeremiah Estrada in the seventh inning -- extending the Halos' lead to 7-4. It was his lone hit in four at-bats on the night -- which included a pair of strikeouts. For the season, Ward is now slashing .241/.307/.366 with the aforementioned seven long balls and 23 RBI.

Jurickson Profar went 4-for-5 with a triple, a double and two RBI against the Giants on Tuesday.

Jun 07   1:25 AM

A frustrating thing for those who drafted fringy Rockies in weekly leagues is that the team was constantly playing one series in Coors and one on the road throughout the first month and a half of the season. That changed a couple of weeks ago, and this is another week in which they play all of their games at home before going on the road for two series next week. It gives someone like Profar quite a bit more utility, as he's well worth using in his Coors Field games and easy to bench while on the road.

Sean Manaea surrendered four runs in 4 2/3 innings of relief Tuesday against the Rockies.

Jun 07   1:23 AM

Manaea was serving as the bulk guy in a pretty easy 10-4 victory for the Giants, but since San Francisco used a second pitcher in front of him before bringing him in for the third, Manaea didn't get the win. That went to Ryan Walker for throwing a scoreless second. Manaea struck out five and walked one tonight. The final two runs came in his fifth inning of work, when he gave up a walk, a triple to Jurickson Profar and a double to Ryan McMahon that would have been a homer in a lot of places.

Making his second start since joining the Rockies rotation, Dinelson Lamet gave up three runs in three innings Tuesday versus the Giants.

Jun 07   1:23 AM

Lamet's arm strength is still sufficient to make him a respectable starter, but he never has regained the slider he showed before he hurt his arm in 2020. Maybe he'd still be adequate with better command, but either that or the slider needs to improve for this experiment to work out.

Patrick Bailey tripled and doubled twice against the Rockies in Tuesday's win.

Jun 07   1:23 AM

Bailey has made quite an impression in hitting .309/.321/.545 since his callup. In this one, he became the first Giants catcher with three extra-base hits in a game since Bust... what, no, make that Nick Hundley in 2018. Posey did it four times in his career, the last time in 2016. Doug Mirabelli actually had four extra-base hits in a game in 2000, so there's something for Bailey to shoot for next time.

Daniel Vogelbach went 0-for-4 and struck out three times against the Braves on Tuesday.

Jun 07   1:00 AM

It's past time for the Mets to commit to Mark Vientos as their primary DH for a spell. Vogelbach is in a 4-for-41 slump that's dropped his OPS down to .649, and even when Vogelbach is hitting, he's not as valuable as his OPS suggests, since he has limited success either scoring or driving in runs. He's hardly useless, but the Mets have someone who might be able to do his job considerably better.

Raisel Iglesias pitched a perfect ninth with a two-run lead for a save against the Mets on Tuesday.

Jun 07   1:00 AM

Iglesias was amped up tonight, averaging 95.7 mph with his sinker and touching 97.5 mph. He had been averaging 94.5 mph with the pitch this season. The save was his eighth since coming off the injured list.

Bryce Elder yielded four runs in six innings and struck out eight Tuesday in a win over the Mets.

Jun 07   1:00 AM

All four runs came on a pair of two-run homers in the third inning. The Braves were still down 4-1 when Elder's night ended, but they came through with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to put him in line for the win. It's just the second time this season that Elder has given up four runs. He was coming off a streak of five straight no-decisions in which he allowed one or two runs every start.

Marcell Ozuna drove in runs in the sixth and eighth innings to help the Braves beat the Mets 6-4 on Tuesday.

Jun 07   1:00 AM

Ozuna doubled in a run during the Braves' four-run sixth and then supplied an insurance run with an RBI groundout two innings later. This comes two days after he was benched for not hustling and settling for a single on a ball he thought would be a homer. He's hitting .228/.311/.468 with 11 homers in 177 plate appearances.

Carlos Carrasco was charged with four runs in five-plus innings Tuesday against the Braves.

Jun 07   1:00 AM

It was one run through five innings, but Carrasco gave up a walk and back-to-back doubles to start the sixth. Carrasco had some of his better stuff of the season tonight, averaging 93.0 mph with his fastball and getting 14 missed swings in 86 pitches. The Mets, though, probably need to look at him as a twice-around-the-lineup guy at this stage of his career.

Aaron Hicks hit his first homer for the Orioles against the Brewers on Tuesday.

Jun 07   12:37 AM

There was good reason to be skeptical about the Orioles' move to sign Hicks -- there probably still is -- but he's 6-for-15 with a 2/3 K/BB ratio for his new team. That's good for a 1.233 OPS, which compares favorably to his .524 mark in 76 plate appearances for the Yankees.

Yennier Cano took a blown save in the eighth after allowing a run in 1 1/3 innings Tuesday against the Brewers.

Jun 07   12:37 AM

Cano has been quite mortal of late, and those who grabbed him for ratio help in shallow leagues might want to move on. He's given up four runs on 14 hits and four walks in his last 10 2/3 innings. Prior to that, he allowed four hits and no walks over 21 2/3 scoreless innings.

Freddy Peralta struck out nine while allowing two runs in five innings Tuesday against the Orioles.

Jun 07   12:37 AM

It didn't pay off with a win, but this was a nice little bounce-back outing for Peralta. He had posted a 20/13 K/BB ratio over 25 2/3 innings in his previous five starts, but he came in at 9/0 tonight. Ideally, he'll build on this and get a dub against the A's this weekend.

Christian Yelich went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk and two runs scored as the Brewers defeated the Orioles 4-3 in 10 innings on Tuesday.

Jun 07   12:37 AM

All three of Yelich's hits tonight left the bat at over 100 mph. He's hitting a rather modest .258/.355/.399 at the moment, but he's up to 16 steals to go along with his seven homers. A 20-homer, 40-steal season would really be something.

Ramón Urías struck out all four times up against the Brewers on Tuesday.

Jun 07   12:37 AM

With both Urías and Julio Mateo struggling offensively, it sure seems like it's time for the Orioles to give Jordan Westburg a chance. Westburg has a .988 OPS in Triple-A. Urías and Mateo are both in the mid-.600s in the majors.

Jordan Walker hit his first homer since being recalled in the loss to the Rangers on Tuesday.

Jun 07   12:15 AM

It was a 430-foot blast off Dane Dunning. Walker has started all five games since rejoining the Cardinals, going 3-for-18 with two walks.
