James Kapreilian walked five while scattering four hit in a win over the Pirates on Tuesday.

Jun 06   10:27 PM

Kapreilian got into trouble in the first inning, allowing a leadoff double to Tucupita Marcano. He quickly walked Bryan Reynolds before Jack Suwinski grounded into a fielder's choice, bringing home the first run for Oakland. He allowed a leadoff double to Reynolds in the fifth before coughing up a grounder up the middle, which allowed Reynolds to tie the game at two runs a piece. The 29--year-old generated nine swinging strikes on 104 pitches and posted a well-below-average 20 percent CSW. He will face the Rays in a scary home match on Monday.

Mitch Keller yielded five runs on eight hits in a loss to the Athletics on Tuesday.

Jun 06   10:27 PM

He struck out one and walked four. Keller has been outstanding this year but took a massive step back against the A's on Tuesday. He didn't get a swinging strike on either of his fastballs and settled for an atrocious 20 percent CSW over 5 1/3 innings. On Tuesday, he will look to bounce back in a road start against the Cubs.

Seby Zavala went 2-for-3 with two homers in a 3-2 win over the Yankees on Tuesday.

Jun 06   10:27 PM

Zavala got the scoring started on Tuesday when he connected with a 320-foot bomb to right field off Clarke Schmidt. He wasn't done as he roped a 435-foot two-run homer in the fifth inning to give the White Sox a 3-1 lead. Zavala has settled in to be an adequate backup to Yasmani Grandal, and Tuesday might be the best night of his season.

Anthony Volpe went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in a 3-2 loss on Tuesday.

Jun 06   10:27 PM

Volpe has been on the struggle bus for most of the season, and Tuesday wasn't much better. He moved up to fifth in the Yankees lineup but struck out twice while going hitless on the night. The 22-year-old is hitting .191/.268/.358, and many are left wondering how much longer he will get regular playing time as the Yankees hunt for an AL-East title.

Liam Hendricks allowed a solo homer but earned his first save of the season Tuesday.

Jun 06   10:27 PM

Hendriks was handed a two-run lead in the bottom of the ninth inning. He allowed a solo homer to Josh Donaldson but was otherwise perfect for his first save of the season. He needed only 12 pitches to get the job done and should be rested enough to pitch on Wednesday if the game situation allows.

Cubs' general manager Jed Hoyer told reporters on Tuesday night that Cody Bellinger (knee) will require a minor league rehab assignment before he's ready to rejoin the big league club.

Jun 06   10:27 PM

Bellinger has been sidelined since May 19 due to a left knee contusion. He has resumed doing full baseball activities and should be ready to begin that minor league rehab assignment within the next few days. If all goes well, there's a possibility that Bellinger could be ready to rejoin the Cubs next weekend.

Jace Peterson went 5-for-5 with five RBi in an 11-2 win over the Pirates on Tuesday.

Jun 06   10:27 PM

As the saying goes, a broken clock is right twice a day. Peterson had an outstanding game against the Pirates. The 33-year-old connected with two homers off Chase De Jong and led the A's to only their 13th win of the season. While there isn't much fantasy goodness here, seeing a bit of over-the-fence power from the veteran is still neat.

Yankees' left-hander Nestor Cortes received a cortisone injection in his ailing left shoulder on Tuesday and will be placed on the 10-day injured list prior to Wednesday's game.

Jun 06   10:27 PM

As anticipated, Cortes will head to the injured list with a left shoulder strain and miss his scheduled start against the White Sox on Wednesday. Randy Vasquez will be recalled to take the left-hander's spot in the Yankees' rotation on Wednesday. Cortes will be shut down from throwing for the next two weeks before being re-evaluated.

Carlos Correa went 1-for-4 against the Rays on Tuesday in a loss.

Jun 06   9:19 PM

He had Minnesota's only extra-base hit of the game, a hard-hit double off Zach Eflin, but was stranded. Correa also left a team-high three runners on base. The funk has shown little sign of abating, as he's now hitting .231/.355/.308 in his last 15 games. His strike-out rate has climbed from 20.5% in 2022 to 23.8% this year. Hopefully the double can get him on a roll, but the way he's been playing he's certainly not giving you much reason to start him.

Luke Raley went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and two runs scored against the Twins in a 7-0 win Tuesday.

Jun 06   9:19 PM

Raley crushed a fifth-inning Louis Varland change up off the batter's eye in center field 450 feet away. It landed so hard that it left a visible mark. He also tripled in the game. Raley had been lowered in the lineup of late, so it was nice to see the Rays bat him third. He now has a .261/.355/.590 line in 134 at-bats and can't be counted on to start on the platoon-happy Rays, but can be counted on to perform when he does start.

Tyler Alexander pitched three innings against the Phillies as an opener, giving up one run in a loss.

Jun 06   9:19 PM

He struck out three. Making his first start of the season, Alexander gave up a solo homer to Kyle Schwarber to lead off the game, then silenced the rest of the Philadelphia bats for the next two innings -- OK, he did allow a Bryce Harper warning track flyout to dead center. Alexander lowered his ERA to 6.00 with a 1.22 WHIP -- but six homers in 27 innings. If Alexander as an opener remains on the plate, he'd likely take on the Braves on Monday and should be avoided for fantasy purposes.

Craig Kimbrel struck out three Tigers in the ninth to pick up his ninth save of the season on Tuesday.

Jun 06   9:19 PM

Staked to a one-run lead in the ninth, Kimbrel needed just 12 pitches to blow away an intimidating 4-5-6 of Nick Maton, Akil Baddoo, and Zack Short. While the season ERA remains an ugly 5.09, Kimbrel has allowed runs in just two of his last seven outings and has an 0.57 WHIP over that timespan.

Miguel Cabrera went 1-for-2 with a walk against the Phillies on Tuesday.

Jun 06   9:19 PM

His double was Detroit's only extra-base hit of the day, and his walk made him the first Tiger on base. Cabrera is hitting .313/.455/.438 in his last seven games with three RBI, but is barely over the Mendoza line on the season with a .202/.286/.253 triple-slash. Cabrera's 3108th hit puts him two away from Dave Winfield for 23rd all-time. He'll continue to play only in a limited role for the Tigers.

Kyle Schwarber blasted a leadoff solo home run against the Tigers on Tuesday in a 1-0 win.

Jun 06   9:19 PM

His quality of contact is down this year, as a 54.4% hard-hit rate in 2022 has fallen to 48.9% in 2023. Another way to put that is that he's hitting .173. Now at .173/.322/.425 on the season with 16 homers, Schwarber's average has been a fantasy anchor but he's still producing counting stats at roughly career-normal rates.

Zack Greinke pitched 4 1/3 innings against the Marlins on Tuesday, allowing four hits and five runs to take a loss.

Jun 06   9:19 PM

He struck out three. Greinke had a perfect game through four innings (with two strikeouts), then allowed a solo homer to Jesus Sanchez for the game's first run and that opened the floodgates. A Jean Segura single and some Joey Wendle hustle put two runs in scoring position with nobody out. A Luis Arraez single was the knockout blow and the bullpen immediately let all of Greinke's inherited runners score on a Bryan de la Cruz double over MJ Melendez's head. It was Greinke's first start allowing more than three runs since May 8th and raised his season ERA to 4.46. The veteran is scheduled to make his next start against the Reds on Monday.

Nick Pratto went 1-for-3 with a run scored in Kansas City's loss to Miami on Tuesday.

Jun 06   9:19 PM

Pratto had the lone extra-base hit for the game for Kansas City and is hitting .298/.392/468 on the season with four homers in 124 at-bats. He hit seventh against Jesus Luzardo, but has been batting leadoff of late against right-handers. There are inklings of fantasy value here, with perhaps more to come if the Royals can get anyone else hitting.

Jesús Sánchez went 1-for-4 with a solo homer in Miami's 6-1 win over Kansas City on Tuesday.

Jun 06   9:19 PM

Sánchez took Zack Greinke opposite field to start a big inning against the Royals in what was a scoreless game. He's hitting .316/.365/.608 with five homers and 13 RBI in his last 30 games and has been batting in the middle of the order since the calendar changed to June. He's playing like a rosterable outfielder, with a .287/.362/.543 overall line with 12 runs scored, five homers, 13 RBI, and three stolen bases.

Louie Varland gave up seven earned runs to the Rays in six innings in a loss on Tuesday.

Jun 06   8:54 PM

He struck out five, but walked four. Varland escaped a first-inning jam, but relented the first run of the game in the fourth when a Luke Raley leadoff triple and a couple of hard-hit singles put the Twins in a 3-0 hole, Raley came calling again in the fifth with a knockout two-run homer. The rookie hurler now carries a 4.40 ERA and will look to rebound as the Sunday starter against Kevin Gausman and the Jays in another tough matchup.

J.P. Crawford (knee) returned to the Mariners' starting lineup for Tuesday night's battle against the Padres in San Diego.

Jun 06   8:17 PM

The 28-year-old was held out of the Mariners' lineup on Sunday due to a bruised knee, but was never expected to be out for long. He's back in his customary leadoff spot and starting at shortstop against Joe Musgrove and the Padres on Tuesday evening.

Yu Chang (hand) resumed his minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday.

Jun 06   7:52 PM

Chang had been pulled off of his minor league rehab assignment last week after experiencing renewed pain in his surgically-repaired left hand, but it sounds like he's ready to give it a go again. Chang has been shelved since April 24 due to a fractured hamate bone in his left hand.
