Mariners general manager Justin Hollander told reporters on Tuesday that right-hander Bryan Woo will remain in the team's starting rotation for the time being.
Woo was hit extremely hard by the Rangers in his big league debut on Saturday -- giving up six runs in just two innings of work. They really don't have any alternatives at the moment though, as Hollander noted that Tommy Milone and Jose Rodriguez are each on the minor league injured list right now. Woo will look for better results when he takes on the Angels in Los Angeles on Saturday.
Christopher Morel is riding the pine once again for Tuesday's battle against the Padres.
The 24-year-old has run ice cold since his massive power binge to start the season -- hitting a dreadful .069/.182/.069 with a 12/4 K/BB ratio over 33 plate appearances in his last 10 games. Given the fact that he's a liability on defense, there's a decent chance that Morel could find himself back in Triple-A if he doesn't start to turn it around soon.
Brad Boxberger (forearm) is expected to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday.
Boxberger has been playing catch without issue, but this will be his first time back up on the mound since landing on the injured list with a right forearm strain on May 15. The Cubs are optimistic that he'll be able to return to the bullpen before the month is through.
Dodgers signed OF Kole Calhoun to a minor league contract.
The 35-year-old outfielder was released by the Yankees on Saturday, but it didn't take him long to find new work. He had been hitting .281/.391/.528 with four homers, 18 RBI and a 22/13 K/BB ratio over 105 plate appearances at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Marco Gonzales was diagnosed with a left flexor strain on Tuesday after additional imaging revealed no damage to his UCL.
That's about as good of news as the M's could have possibly hoped for. He'll remain shut down for another week or so before beginning a throwing program. Barring any setbacks along the way, the Mariners are hopeful that Gonzales will be able to return to the rotation before the month of June is through. The 31-year-old hurler owns a 5.22 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and a 34/18 K/BB ratio over 50 innings on the season.
Royce Lewis was held out of the Twins' starting lineup on Tuesday night.
Lewis was pulled from Sunday's game against the Guardians after he flipped over Will Benson at first base. He was able to take batting practice prior to Tuesday's game against the Rays, but they'll give him an extra day off just to be on the safe side. Fortunately, it sounds like he should be able to avoid a trip to the injured list.
Giants optioned INF/OF Brett Wisely to Triple-A Sacramento.
With Thairo Estrada returning from the injured list on Tuesday night, Wisely's services were no longer needed at the big league level. The 24-year-old hit just .195/.230/.317 with two homers, seven RBI and two stolen bases in 88 plate appearances during his time with the Giants.
Giants activated OF Joc Pederson from the 10-day injured list.
Pederson will return to the Giants' lineup as the designated hitter on Tuesday night and will bat third against Dinelson Lamet and the Rockies. He has been sideliend since May 13 due to a right hand contusion.
Michael Conforto (heel) returned to the Giants' starting lineup for Tuesday night's battle against the Rockies in Colorado.
Conforto missed each of the Giants' last four games due to a left heel bruise. He's back in there in right field on Tuesday night and will bat fifth against Dinelson Lamet and the Rockies,. On the season, the 30-year-old outfielder is slashing .249/.345/.462 with 11 homers, 28 RBI and a pair of stolen bases in his first 50 games with the Giants.
Angels optioned INF Livan Soto to Double-A Rocket City.
The 22-year-old saw just 12 plate appearances during his time with the Angels -- going 2-for-9 (.222) with two runs scored and a 2/3 K/BB ratio. He'll return to an everyday role at Double-A until he's called upon once more by the Angels.
Trent Grisham (back) remains out of the Padres' starting lineup for Tuesday's matchup against the Cubs.
Grisham was a late scratch from Monday's lineup due to a sore lower back and it looks like it's still giving him problems on Tuesday. If he doesn't show improvement over the next day or two, there's a chance that he could wind up on the injured list. Fernando Tatis Jr. will cover center field once again while Brandon Dixon will draw another start in right field on Tuesday.
Matt Beaty has elected free agency.
Beaty was designated for assignment by the Giants last week. After passing through waivers unclaimed, he refused an outright assignment to Triple-A Sacramento, instead opting to peddle his wares on the open market. Beaty had been hitting .272/.406/.447 with four homers and 23 RBI during his time at Triple-A Sacramento.
Owen Miller is not in the Brewers' starting lineup for Tuesday night's contest against the Orioles.
With Luis Urias back in the fold -- and Willy Adames likely to return this week -- Miller may start to see his playing time get squeezed a bit despite the fact that he's hitting .317/.355/.469 with four homers, 17 RBI and eight stolen bases in 155 plate appearances. It's Urias covering second base on Tuesday night with Abraham Toro drawing a start at the hot corner and batting sixth against Kyle Gibson and the O's.
Dodgers sent RHP Zack Burdi outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Burdi had been designated for assignment late last week, but passed through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as extra bullpen depth for the Dodgers at the Triple-A level. The 28-year-old has posted an 11.25 ERA, 2.00 WHIP and a 5/2 K/BB ratio over four innings with the big league club this season.
Jose Siri (shoulder) returned to the Rays' starting lineup for Tuesday night's tilt against the Twins.
Siri missed each of the last two ballgames due to a sore shoulder, but it appears to have been only a minor issue and he's ready to rock on Tuesday night. He'll start in center field and bat ninth against Louie Varland and the Twins.
Mariners activated INF/OF Dylan Moore from the 10-day injured list.
The 30-year-old had been sidelined since early in spring training due to an oblique issue that he suffered while rehabbing from his offseason core muscle surgery. Moore appeared in 10 games on a minor league rehab assignment where he hit .229 (8-for-35) with no homers, five RBI, two stolen bases and a 12/7 K/BB ratio. He'll add depth and flexibility to the Mariners' bench.
Mariners activated RHP Andrés Muñoz from the 15-day injured list.
The dynamic 24-year-old hurler will rejoin the Mariners' bullpen for Tuesday night's battle against the Padres. He had been sidelined since early April due to a right shoulder strain. Prior to landing on the injured list, Muñoz had fired 3 1/3 scoreless innings with a 1.50 WHIP and a 3/1 K/BB ratio. His return should help to take the pressure off of Paul Sewald at the end of games for the M's.
Mariners optioned INF/OF Sam Haggerty to Triple-A Tacoma.
There are only room for so many utility players on the same bench, and with Dylan Moore returning from the injured list on Tuesday, something had to give. Haggerty saw just 42 at-bats during this time with the Mariners -- hitting .190/.292/.238 with no homers, two RBI, four stolen bases and an 11/6 K/BB ratio. He'll bide his time at Triple-A until he's needed once more.
Mariners placed RHP Trevor Gott on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to June 5, with a low back muscle spasm.
It's not immediately clear how long the 30-year-old hurler will be sidelined. Gott has registered a 3.38 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and a 31/7 K/BB ratio across 26 2/3 innings on the season. Andrés Muñoz was activated from the injured list in a corresponding move on Tuesday to take Gott's place in the Mariners' bullpen.
Xander Bogaerts (wrist) remains out of the Padres' starting lineup for Tuesday's affair against the Cubs.
Bogaerts had been hopeful that he would be able to return to action on Tuesday night, but unfortunately that's not the case. Eventually, the Padres may have to wind up placing him in the injured list if he can't play through the wrist injury looking like any semblance of his former self. Bogaerts has hit just .204/.294/.303 with three homers in 38 games since being hit on the wrist by a pitch.
