Jake McCarthy is not in the Diamondbacks starting lineup for Saturday's showdown against the Braves.
If you're going to need a day off, taking it when your squad is facing Spencer Strider isn't a bad idea. Since returning from the minor leagues, McCarthy has hit .320 (8-for-25) with two RBI and six stolen bases in his first eight ballgames. He should be back in there on Sunday.
Colin Rea allowed three runs over five innings on Saturday in a win over the Reds.
Rea finished with five strikeouts and also issued three walks. He gave up six hits, including a solo homer to Jake Fraley. He'll bring a 4.94 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 40/18 K/BB ratio across 47 1/3 innings (nine starts) into a home outing Thursday against the Orioles.
Devin Williams struck out three batters in a scoreless ninth inning on Saturday against the Reds to record his 10th save of the season.
Williams got the call after Jake Cousins put a pair of runners on-base and failed to record an out to open the ninth inning. He struck out Tyler Stephenson before walking Will Benson and issuing a bases-loaded free pass to T.J. Hopkins. He rebounded by striking out Kevin Newman and Matt McLain to end the contest.
Christian Walker is not in the Diamondbacks' starting lineup for Saturday night's showdown against the Braves.
He'll take a seat with star right-hander Spencer Strider toeing the slab for the Braves on Saturday night. Emmanuel Rivera will start in his place at first base and bat fifth for the Diamondbacks on Saturday evening in Arizona.
Eury Pérez recorded five strikeouts over five shutout innings on Saturday in a win over the Athletics.
Pérez was staked to a seven-run advantage by the fourth inning and wound up turning things over to Miami's bullpen after five scoreless frames. He finished with five strikeouts and only issued one free pass. He'll carry a sparkling 2.25 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 24/11 K/BB ratio across 24 innings (five starts) into a road tilt on Friday against the White Sox.
George Soriano allowed one run over three innings on Saturday against the Athletics to record his first career save.
Soriano came on with the Marlins leading by nine runs at the time and wound up needing just 61 pitches (42 strikes) to record the final nine outs.
Trevor Larnach (illness) could rejoin the Twins prior to Sunday's game against the Guardians.
Larnach is currently on a minor league rehab assignment. He has been sidelined since May 23 due to a bout of pneumonia, but is now fully recovered and ready to rock. With Joey Gallo landing on the injured list on Saturday -- plus the nagging injuries to Carlos Correa and Byron Buxton -- the Twins can use all of the help that they can get at the moment.
Yankees placed RHP Ryan Weber on the 15-day injured list with a right forearm strain.
It's not exactly clear when Weber sustained the injury -- or how long he'll be sidelined for. Nick Ramirez was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take his place in the Yankees' bullpen.
Yankees recalled LHP Nick Ramirez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
With Ryan Weber (forearm) landing on the injured list prior to Saturday's game, Ramirez will add a fresh arm to the Bombers' bullpen mix. He has posted a solid 2.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and a 5/4 K/BB ratio over nine innings of work out of the Yankees' bullpen this season.
Yankees placed OF Greg Allen on the 10-day injured list with a right hip flexor strain.
Allen was held out of the Yankees' lineup for the second straight day on Saturday, and since it looked like it would be at least a few more days before he was ready to return the Yankees did the prudent thing and placed him on the injured list. Oswaldo Cabrera was summoned from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to replace him on the active roster.
Yankees recalled INF/OF Oswaldo Cabrera from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Cabrera has really struggled in his opportunities with the big league club this season -- slashing a paltry .195/.246/.292 with three homers, 15 RBI and five stolen bases over 168 plate appearances. He'll add depth and versatility off the Yankees' bench.
Orioles selected the contract of 1B Josh Lester from Triple-A Norfolk.
Lester is with the team in San Francisco and in uniform for Saturday's game, though he is not in the club's starting lineup. The 28-year-old slugger has hit .282/.339/.549 with 14 homers and 50 RBI in 52 games at Triple-A Norfolk this season.
Michael Conforto (heel) remains out of the Giants' lineup for Saturday's contest against the Orioles.
It's the third straight game that Conforto has missed due to a left heel contusion, though he could once again be available as a pinch-hitter off the bench. Blake Sabol will start in his place in left field and bat fifth against Kyle Bradish and the Orioles on Saturday night in San Francisco.
Carlos Correa (foot) remained out of the Twins' starting lineup for Saturday's matchup against the Guardians.
It'll be the second straight game that Correa has missed after leaving Thursday's contest when he aggravated his plantar fasciitis. The Twins will continue to take things day-by-day with him, and there isn't any thought to placing him on the injured list -- at least not yet.
Byron Buxton (ribs) was held out of the Twins' starting lineup once again on Saturday night.
As expected, Buxton will miss his second straight game after being drilled in the ribs by a pitch during Thursday's game against the Guardians. There's a chance that he could return to the Twins' lineup on Sunday, depending on how sore he is when he wakes up. Ryan Jeffers will function as the Twins' designated hitter and bat sixth against the Guardians on Saturday night in Minnesota.
Dodgers placed RHP Phil Bickford on the 15-day injured list with lower back tightness.
The 27-year-old right-hander has really struggled out of the Dodgers' bullpen this season -- registering a 7.33 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and a 36/14 K/BB ratio over 27 innings in his 23 appearances. It's not yet clear how long he'll be sidelined. Tayler Scott was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move to take his place in the Dodgers' bullpen.
Dodgers recalled RHP Tayler Scott from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
With Phil Bickford (back) landing on the injured list on Saturday, Scott will get another opportunity to work out of the Dodgers' bullpen. The 30-year-old right-hander has posted a 6.75 ERA, 2.08 WHIP and a 13/6 K/BB ratio across 12 innings with the big league club this season.
Rays optioned RHP Trevor Kelley to Triple-A Durham.
Kelley functioned as the opener in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Red Sox, but with Robert Stephenson joining the active roster for the nightcap something had to give. He should get another opportunity with the Rays before the summer is through.
Rays designated LHP Joe LaSorsa for assignment.
The Rays needed to free up a spot on their 40-man roster on Saturday and it looks like LaSorsa pulled the short straw this time around. There’s a decent chance he’ll pass through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as bullpen depth for the Rays.
Rays activated RHP Shawn Armstrong from the 60-day injured list.
The right-hander had been shelved since spring training due to tightness in his neck, but he’s now fully recovered and ready to contribute to the Rays’ bullpen. He’ll likely be utilized in the middle innings initially.
