Steven Kwan is not in the Guardians' lineup for Thursday's contest against the Padres.
It'll be Will Brennan in left field on Thursday night against the Padres.
Pirates placed RHP Colin Holderman on the 15-day injured list with right wrist inflammation.
It's a bit of an uncommon ailment, so we're not exactly sure how long Holderman will be out at this juncture. There should be some clarity in the next few days. The 27-year-old righty has posted a solid 4.01 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 28/7 K/BB ratio across 24 2/3 innings (26 appearances) this season.
Pirates placed RHP Colin Holderman on the 15-day injured list.
The Pirates declined to provide an injury designation, so we're not sure how long Holderman will be out at this juncture. The 27-year-old righty has posted a solid 4.01 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 28/7 K/BB ratio across 24 2/3 innings (26 appearances) this season.
Pirates recalled RHP Yerry De Los Santos from Triple-A Indianapolis.
De Los Santos will be available out of Pittsburgh's bullpen for Thursday's game against the Cubs. The 25-year-old righty has made only one relief appearance this season at the big league level.
Brandon Hughes (knee) played light catch on Thursday.
Hughes landed on the injured list earlier this week with left knee inflammation and is likely to miss at least a couple weeks.
Justin Steele (forearm) threw a bullpen session on Thursday.
It was a "touch and feel" throwing session for Steele, who appears to be on track to start on Saturday against the Orioles. The 27-year-old southpaw has been out since late May due to a left forearm strain.
Josh Jung is not in the Rangers' lineup for Thursday's showdown against the Angels.
It appears to be a scheduled day off for Jung, who has started 24 consecutive contests since May 19. The 25-year-old rookie infielder is batting just .234 (11-for-47) with one homer and eight RBI across 12 games since the start of June. It'll be Josh Smith filling in at the hot corner on Thursday evening.
Danny Jansen went 3-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs in Thursday’s loss to the Orioles.
Jansen went deep against Tyler Wells in the third and fifth innings, providing the only offense of the day for the Blue Jays. It’s nice to see after his recent stint on the injured list with a left groin strain, and hopefully a sign of things to come offensively. The 28-year-old is now slashing .214/.275/.450 with eight home runs and 28 RBI through 39 games.
Giants released 2B Riley Mahan.
Mahan was a third-round pick of the Marlins back in 2017 and has yet to reach the majors. The 27-year-old infielder was plucked out of the independent Atlantic League last year by the Giants and was cut loose earlier this month after batting .193 (32-for-166) with eight homers and two steals in 46 games for Double-A Richmond.
Félix Bautista secured a four-out save to close on Thursday’s win over the Blue Jays.
Bautista came on with two on in the top of the eighth and got Matt Chapman to strike out looking to end the threat. He delivered a 1-2-3 ninth inning, including a strikeout of Kevin Kiermaier, en route to his 18th save of the season. “The Mountain” holds a dominant 1.11 ERA and 66/17 K/BB ratio over 32 1/3 innings.
Yusei Kikuchi yielded two runs over 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Orioles on Thursday.
Kikuchi was pulled in the fifth at 94 pitches. The southpaw allowed a game-tying homer to Adley Rutschman in his final frame. He struck out seven on the afternoon while giving up six hits and walking a pair. He’s now failed to complete five innings in two out of his last three starts. Kikuchi will bring a 4.31 ERA into a start against the Marlins next week.
Tyler Wells gave up two runs in 6 2/3 innings in a 4-2 win over the Blue Jays on Thursday.
Wells was the victim of a pair of solo homers from Danny Jansen, but otherwise managed to keep the Blue Jays off the board. He allowed five hits on the afternoon while striking out eight and walking just one. The 28-year-old has allowed two earned runs or fewer in four straight starts and now holds a shiny 3.20 ERA on the year. He’ll square off against the Rays in an AL East battle in his next start.
White Sox selected the contract of INF/OF Zach Remillard from Triple-A Charlotte.
Remillard will replace the injured Yoán Moncada (back) on the active roster. The 29-year-old has hit .236/.344/.354 with five homers and 13 stolen bases over 59 games in Triple-A this season. He'll give the White Sox some depth between the infield and outfield.
Sean Reid-Foley (elbow) is nearing rehab games.
Reid-Foley underwent Tommy John surgery last May before returning to the Mets on a minor league deal over the winter. The 27-year-old could be an option for the major league bullpen by midseason.
Dillon Tate (forearm) tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings Thursday as he resumed his minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk.
He struck out two and didn't give up a hit, but he walked two batters and threw just 11 out of 25 pitches for strikes. Tate began the year on the IL with a flexor strain, but suffered a setback during his first attempt at a rehab assignment in late May due to a stress reaction in his elbow. He could be cleared to join the O's bullpen by the end of the month if all goes well.
Braves recalled RHP Ben Heller from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Heller was just acquired from the Rays last week and will now replace the injured Jesse Chavez (shin) on the active roster. This will be his first chance in the majors since 2020 with the Yankees. The 31-year-old has posted a 3.68 ERA and 36/8 K/BB ratio over 29 1/3 innings in Triple-A this season.
Mets activated RHP Stephen Ridings from the 60-day injured list; optioned him to Triple-A Syracuse.
Ridings began the year on the injured list due to a right lat strain, but he began pitching in rehab games earlier this month. He's a candidate to join the Mets' bullpen soon.
Dillon Tate (forearm) tossed a scoreless inning Thursday as he resumed his minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk.
He walked a batter and notched a strikeout. Tate began the year on the IL with a flexor strain, but suffered a setback during his first attempt at a rehab assignment in late May due to a stress reaction in his elbow. He could be cleared to join the O's bullpen by the end of the month if all goes well.
J.T. Realmuto is not in Thursday's lineup against the Diamondbacks.
He'll sit with the day game after the night game. Garrett Stubbs will catch Aaron Nola and bat ninth. Bryson Stott slides up to the No. 5 spot.
Byron Buxton will bat cleanup in his return Thursday against the Tigers.
Buxton is officially back in action after missing nearly two weeks with a left rib contusion. The Twins are going righty-heavy against Matthew Boyd, as Kyle Farmer is at second base and switch-hitter Willi Castro is in left field.
