Andrew McCutchen went 2-for-2 with three walks on Saturday in the Pirates' extra-inning loss to the Marlins.

Jun 24   8:11 PM

McCutchen reached base safely in all five of his plate appearances in the extra-inning marathon and was one of the few bright spots for a Pittsburgh lineup that managed just three runs on six hits over 11 innings.

Angels designated C Chris Okey for assignment.

Jun 24   8:11 PM

The Angels needed to free up a spot on the 40-man roster with David Fletceher returning and Eduardo Escobar arriving on Saturday, and Okey became a roster casualty in that carnage. The 28-year-old backstop should pass through waivers unclaimed and continue to function as catching depth for the Halos.

Bryce Miller gave up three runs over 4 1/3 innings on Saturday in a no-decision against the Orioles.

Jun 24   8:11 PM

Miller dealt with some diminished velocity towards the later stages of his outing and was lifted in the fifth inning of this one. He notched four strikeouts and also issued three walks. He'll carry a respectable 3.88 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 49/11 K/BB ratio across 55 2/3 innings (10 starts) into a challenging home outing Friday against the Rays.

Dean Kremer yielded three runs over seven innings on Saturday in a no-decision against the Mariners.

Jun 24   8:11 PM

Kremer completed seven innings for the first time this season and managed to limit Seattle's lineup to just three solo homers. He finished with five strikeouts and only issued one walk. He'll bring a pedestrian 4.50 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 77/22 K/BB ratio across 88 innings (16 starts) into a home matchup on Friday against the Twins.

Félix Bautista allowed a game-tying solo homer in the ninth inning on Saturday in a blown save against the Mariners.

Jun 24   8:11 PM

Bautista retired Eugenio Suárez and Cal Raleigh to open the frame before serving up an unlikely game-tying shot to Mike Ford. The hard-throwing 28-year-old right-hander has been close to automatic this season as one of the premier closers in the game, converting 20 of 25 save chances to go along with a microscopic 1.26 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 71/17 K/BB ratio across 35 2/3 innings (34 appearances).

Mike Ford clubbed a pair of solo homers on Saturday in the Mariners' extra-inning loss to the Orioles.

Jun 24   8:11 PM

Ford went deep off starter Dean Kremer in the third inning before delivering a game-tying solo shot off elite stopper Félix Bautista with two outs in the ninth inning. It was his third career two-home performance and second time he's accomplished the feat in the last month. He has six round-trippers in just 17 games this season in the majors.

Andrés Muñoz was removed from Saturday's battle against the Orioles due to an apparent injury.

Jun 24   6:42 PM

No word yet on exactly what happened yet, but teammate Eugenio Suarez immediately called for the training staff after the right-hander delivered a pitch in the seventh inning. He'll head for further evaluation to determine exactly what's going on. The Mariners should pass along word shortly.

Padres optioned LHP Ray Kerr to Triple-A El Paso.

Jun 24   6:24 PM

The Padres needed to free up a spot on the active roster for Matt Waldron to make a spot start on Saturday, and it looks like Kerr was the odd-man out this time around. He should get another chance with the big league club before the summer is through.

Padres selected the contract of RHP Matt Waldron from Triple-A El Paso.

Jun 24   6:24 PM

The 26-year-old knuckleballer will make a spot start for the Padres on Saturday night against the Nationals -- and all eyes will be on him. His results at the Triple-A level weren't inspiring, as he held a 7.02 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and a 75/24 K/BB ratio over 66 2/3 innings.

Luke Jackson was removed from Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks due to tightness in his lower back.

Jun 24   6:24 PM

Jackson delivered a slider to Jake McCarthy and immediately signaled to the training staff that something was wrong. It's just his ninth appearance in the big leagues since returning from Tommy John surgery, so there was major cause for concern. Fortunately, it appears to be only a minor back issue.

Nationals recalled RHP Paolo Espino from Triple-A Rochester.

Jun 24   5:19 PM

He'll take the place of Chad Kuhl on the Nationals' roster after the veteran right-hander was designated for assignment on Saturday. Espino has made 11 starts at Triple-A Rochester this season -- posting a 4.56 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and a 43/19 K/BB ratio over 49 1/3 innings. It's unclear if Espino will function as a long man out of the Nationals' bullpen or if he'll slot in for a spot start within the next few days.

Noah Syndergaard (blister) threw a live bullpen session without issue on Saturday.

Jun 24   5:01 PM

The right-hander faced off against a few of his teammates at Dodger Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Syndergaard has been sidelined since early June due to a blister on his right index finger. Given how poorly he has pitched this season though, there may not be room for him in the club's starting rotation once he is deemed ready to return.

Nationals designated RHP Chad Kuhl for assignment.

Jun 24   5:01 PM

The 30-year-old hurler simply hasn't gotten the job done for the Nationals this season -- compiling a miserable 8.45 ERA, 1.96 WHIP and a 31/28 K/BB ratio over 38 1/3 innings in his 16 appearances (six starts). He could attract some interest on waivers.

Matthew Liberatore will start for the Cardinals in the finale of their London Series game against the Cubs.

Jun 24   4:44 PM

Jack Flaherty had been scheduled to take the ball on Sunday, but he was scratched from that start due to tightness in his hip. The 23-year-old southpaw has struggled mightily during his time with the Cardinals thus far -- registering a 6.12 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and an 18/12 K/BB ratio across 25 innings in six appearances (five starts).

David Peralta is not in the Dodgers' starting lineup for Saturday's contest against

Jun 24   4:20 PM

It looks to be just a regular day of rest for the veteran outfielder. Jason Heyward will start in his place in left field and bat fifth against Ronel Blanco and the Astros on Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles.

Riley Greene (leg) took batting practice on the field at Comerica Park on Saturday.

Jun 24   4:20 PM

Greene continues to make steady recovery in his return from a stress reaction in his left fibula.  He's still unlikely to rejoin the Tigers until after the All-Star break, but he's at least trending in the right direction.

Eduardo Rodriguez threw around 50 pitches over three simulated innings during a live batting practice session on Saturday.

Jun 24   4:20 PM

The Tigers' southpaw faced rehabbing teammates Riley Greene and Akil Baddoo -- as well as Jonathan Schoop and Kerry Carpenter during the session. He came away from the session feeling good, which is very encouraging. The next step for him could be a minor league rehab assignment -- with the team targeting a return at some point in mid-July.

Dansby Swanson went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and a pair of walks on Saturday in his return to the Cubs' lineup.

Jun 24   4:00 PM

Swanson took righty Drew VerHagen deep with two outs in the ninth inning for his eighth round-tripper of the season. Clearly, his right wrist is feeling better after getting a couple days off to rest and recover following a hit by pitch earlier this week.

Christopher Morel went 3-for-4 with an RBI on Saturday in the Cubs' win over the Cardinals at London Stadium.

Jun 24   4:00 PM

Morel is rapidly taking up the mantle of streakiest hitter in baseball this season. The versatile 24-year-old celebrated his 24th birthday with a three-hit performance at London Stadium as the Cubs rolled to a win over the Cardinals. He's back up to .283/.333/.638 with 13 homers and 30 RBI across 138 plate appearances this season.

Paul Goldschmidt delivered an RBI single on Saturday in the Cardinals' loss to the Cubs in the opening game of the London Series.

Jun 24   4:00 PM

Goldschmidt made history in this one, becoming the first player in major league history to play a regular season game in five countries. The 35-year-old first baseman put the Cardinals on the scoreboard, supplying their lone run of the one-sided contest, with an RBI single to right field off lefty Justin Steele in the sixth inning.
