Mets recalled INF Luis Guillorme from Triple-A Syracuse.
He'll take the place of superstar first baseman Pete Alonso (wrist) on the Mets' active roster. Guillorme provides New York with some extra bench depth and defensive versatility, but has batted just .233 (14-for-60) with three RBI across 27 games this season in the big leagues this season.
Ryan Mountcastle was held out of the Orioles' starting lineup on Friday night due to illness.
The hard-hitting 26-year-old was feeling a bit under the weather, so manager Brandon Hyde opted to give him the night off. He's considered day-to-day. Anthony Santander will start in his place at first base on Friday night and will bat third against Daniel Lynch and the Royals.
Mets recalled LHP Zach Muckenhirn from Triple-A Syracuse.
The 28-year-old southpaw has pitched decently in two appearances for the Mets this season -- registering a 2.45 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and a 2/1 K/BB ratio in 3 2/3 innings. He'll add depth in the middle innings for manage Buck Showalter. Steven Nogosek was designated for assignment in a corresponding move on Friday.
Mets designated RHP Steven Nogosek for assignment.
The 28-year-old right-hander gets booted off of the roster after struggling to a 5.61 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and a 25/14 K/BB ratio across 25 2/3 innings with the big league club. The final straw apparently came in Thursday's heart-breaking extra-inning loss where he allowed a run on four hits in his 1 1/3 innings of work. There's a chance that he could get claimed off of waivers by another team desperate for bullpen help.
Astros recalled C César Salazar from Triple-A Sugar Land.
Salazar will rejoin the big league roster on Friday with Yordan Alvarez (oblique) landing on the injured list. It appears as though the Astros intend to give Yainer Diaz plenty of run in the designated hitter spot while Alvarez is sidelined, giving them the need for extra catching depth. Salazar can continue to be ignored for fantasy purposes.
Brent Rooker is not in the Athletics' starting lineup for Friday night's battle against the Brewers.
It looks to be just a regular day of rest for the 28-year-old outfielder. Rooker has cooled considerably after a hot start to the season and is now slashing .263/.363/.505 with 12 homers and 36 RBI on the season. Seth Brown will serve as the team's designated hitter on Friday night against Adrian Houser and the Brewers.
Alex Verdugo has returned to the Red Sox' lineup for Friday's series opener against the Yankees.
As expected, Verdugo returns to right field and will lead off on Friday night after being benched for Thursday's series finale in Cleveland for a lack of hustle during Wednesday's game.
Brewers recalled RHP Tyson Miller from Triple-A Nashville.
The 27-year-old hurler has struggled in four appearances with the Brewers this season -- registering a 6.75 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and a 5/0 K/BB ratio across 6 2/3 innings of work. He'll give manager Craig Counsell another option in the middle innings.
Brewers placed LHP Bennett Sousa on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to June 8, with left shoulder nerve irritation.
It's not immediately clear how long the Brewers expect the southpaw to be sidelined. Tyson Miller was recalled from Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move on Friday to take Sousa's place in the Brewers' bullpen.
Brewers placed RHP Jake Cousins on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to June 4, with right shoulder inflammation.
The Brewers had optioned Cousins to Triple-A Nashville on June 4, but that option will be rescinded and he'll head to the injured list instead. Cousins has appeared in nine games for the Brewers this season -- compiling a 4.82 ERA, 2.14 WHIP and a 7/10 K/BB ratio over 9 /3 innings.
George Springer is not in the Blue Jays' lineup for Friday's contest against the Twins.
It appears to be a routine maintenance day for Springer, who has started 13 consecutive contests for the Blue Jays dating back to May 26. It'll be Cavan Biggio picking up a start in right field in his absence.
Gleyber Torres is not in the Yankees' lineup for Friday's series opener against the Red Sox.
Torres has earned a night off after suiting up for both games of Thursday's doubleheader against the White Sox and also delivering a pivotal two-run blast in the second contest of the twin bill. It'll be DJ LeMahieu at second base on Friday evening.
Josh Lowe is not in the Rays' lineup for Friday's series opener against the Rangers.
Lowe takes a seat on Friday night with lefty Andrew Heaney toeing the rubber for the Rangers. He figures to enter the contest as a pinch-hitter at some point.
Red Sox optioned INF Enmanuel Valdez to Triple-A Worcester.
Valdez has injected some life into Boston's lineup with his bat, but has really struggled defensively over the last few weeks, which is probably why the Astros were willing to ship him away last summer in exchange for two months of catcher Christian Vásquez. He should get another opportunity later this summer and definitely has the firepower to make an impact for fantasy managers in deeper mixed leagues someday.
Red Sox selected the contract of LHP Joe Jacques from Triple-A Worcester.
Jacques provides Boston's worn-out bullpen with a fresh arm ahead of Friday's series opener against the Yankees. The 28-year-old southpaw, who will be making his big league debut when he gets into a game, has registered a serviceable 3.58 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 24/9 K/BB ratio across 27 2/3 innings (23 appearances, one start) this season for Triple-A Worcester.
Cardinals activated RHP Jake Woodford from the 15-day injured list; optioned him to Triple-A Memphis.
Woodford allowed one run over three innings on Thursday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Memphis and will remain stationed there until an opportunity opens up for him in the majors. The 26-year-old righty made a handful of starts earlier this season for the Cardinals and makes sense as a versatile swingman at the highest level.
Cardinals optioned INF/OF Juan Yepez to Triple-A Memphis.
Yepez has been shipped back to the minors with switch-hitting outfielder Dylan Carlson returning from the injured list ahead of Friday's showdown against the Reds. The 25-year-old slugger has gotten into 20 games this season for the Cardinals.
Royals placed OF Edward Olivares on the restricted list.
Anne Rogers of MLB.com adds that Olivares is away from the team on Friday night attending to a personal matter and is expected to return for Saturday's game against the Orioles.
Royals recalled INF/OF Nate Eaton from Triple-A Omaha.
Eaton gets the call to join Kansas City's active roster for Friday's game against the Orioles with Edward Olivares away from the team attending to a personal matter. It might only be a brief stay for the versatile 26-year-old, who has just three hits in 52 at-bats this season in the big leagues.
Tigers optioned INF Tyler Nevin to Triple-A Toledo.
Nevin is the corresponding move to activate outfielder Kerry Carpenter from the injured list prior to Friday's series opener against the Diamondbacks. The 26-year-old corner infielder has just five hits in 39 at-bats over 16 games this season in the majors.
