Tyler Glasnow limited the Rangers to one run and one hit over six innings to pick up his first win Friday.
A Leody Taveras homer was the only damage. Glasnow had a couple of pitch timer violations tonight, but nothing else proved very difficult. He averaged 96.8 mph with his fastball, his best mark to date this season, and he struck out six.
J.D. Davis was scratched from the Giants' starting lineup on Friday night due to tightness in his right hip.
No word yet on the severity of the injury -- or how much time Davis may stand to miss. Casey Schmitt will replace him at third base and bat eighth for the Giants against Marcus Stroman and the Cubs on Friday evening in San Francisco.
Akil Baddoo was pulled from Friday's game against the Diamondbacks due to an apparent leg injury.
Baddoo appeared to pull a hamstring while hustling to first base as he grounded out to end the fourth inning, and was replaced by Andy Ibanez defensively to start the top of the fifth. He'll head for further evaluation to determine the severity of the injury. Expect the Tigers to provide an update on his status shortly.
Joey Bart (groin) met up with the Giants in San Francisco on Friday to be re-evaluated.
Bart had been on a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento. The Giants will check him out and see how he has progressed before making a decision on what the next step will be. With Patrick Bailey performing well, it'll be interesting to see how the playing time shakes out once Bart does eventually return from his left groin strain.
White Sox manager Pedro Grifol told reporters on Friday that Eloy Jiménez is likely to be sidelined for 4-or-5 days, but is likely to avoid a trip to the injured list.
It sounds like the slugger will miss the entire weekend series against the Marlins, but the White Sox are hopeful he'll be able to return early next week. Grifol described the injury as discomfort just below Jiménez's left calf. Fantasy managers should expect to be without Jiménez for the duration of the weekend at a minimum.
Gio Urshela was scratched from the Angels' lineup on Friday night due to tightness in his lower back.
He's considered day-to-day for the time being, though back injuries are notoriously tricky and can tend to linger. Jared Walsh will replace him at first base in the Angels' lineup on Friday night and will bat sixth against Luis Castillo and the Mariners.
Casey Schmitt is not in the Giants' starting lineup for Friday night's contest against the Cubs.
The 24-year-old rookie is hitting just .204/.228/.259 with zero homers and nine RBI over 57 plate appearances in his last 15 games and could be in danger of a return trip to Triple-A Sacramento now that Brandon Crawford and Thairo Estrada are both fully healthy.
Cubs recalled INF Nick Madrigal from Triple-A Iowa.
He'll take the place of Miles Mastrobuoni after he was optioned to Triple-A Iowa in a corresponding move on Friday night. Madrigal has been sizzling at the plate since his demotion on May 25 -- hitting .488/.580/.854 with one home run, seven RBI and an 8/5 K/BB ratio in 50 plate appearances. He's starting at second base and batting leadoff for the Cubs on Friday evening against Anthony DeSclafani and the Giants.
Cubs optioned INF/OF Miles Mastrobuoni to Triple-A Iowa.
The versatile 27-year-old was simply unable to get anything going with the bat during his time with the big league club -- slashing a woeful .161/.266/.196 with zero homers, one RBI and a 17/8 K/BB ratio across 64 plate appearances. He'll continue to function as extra depth for the Cubs at the Triple-A level.
Mariners optioned RHP Matt Festa to Triple-A Tacoma.
The 30-year-old hurler struggled in six appearances with the Mariners -- registering a 5.40 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and a 10/9 K/BB ratio over 6 2/3 innings. He'll continue to function as extra bullpen depth for the M's at the Triple-A level.
Mariners activated RHP Penn Murfee from the 15-day injured list.
Murfee had been sidelined since early May due to inflammation in his pitching elbow, but he looked good on a recent minor league rehab assignment and has been cleared to return to the Mariners' bullpen. Before landing on the injured list, the 29-year-old had registered a stellar 1.38 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and a 15/9 K/BB ratio across 13 innings with the Mariners.
William Cuevas has reached an agreement on a one-year, $450,000 contract to return to the KT Wiz of the Korea Baseball Organization.
Cuevas had been pitching in the Dodgers' organization at Triple-A Oklahoma City where he registered a 6.14 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and a 43/20 K/BB ratio over 44 innings. The 32-year-old hurler spent the previous four season with the KT Wiz and hasn't appeared in a big league game since 2018.
Caleb Thielbar is set to undergo an MRI exam on his injured right oblique.
The right-hander landed on the injured list with the injury on Friday, but he'll head back to Minnesota at some point over the weekend to get the imaging done to determine the severity of the strain. As of now, there's no clear timeline as to when the 36-year-old hurler will be able to rejoin the Twins' bullpen.
Jo Adell is absent from the Angels' starting lineup for Friday night's contest against the Mariners.
All Adell did in his season debut on Thursday was crush a 451-foot bomb off of Drew Smyly, so naturally, he isn't in the lineup with tough right-hander Luis Castillo taking the hill for the Mariners on Friday night. With Hunter Renfroe likely to return from paternity leave on Saturday, it looks increasingly likely that Adell will be sent back to Triple-A Salt Lake once again.
Rockies' manager Bud Black told reporters on Friday night that Pierce Johnson has been removed from the team's closer role.
This move doesn't come as a surprise, as Justin Lawrence has basically usurped the role in the midst of Johnson's constant struggles, but it's now official. What Black wouldn't do however, is name Lawrence as his ninth-inning guy. He did mention him -- and Jake Bird -- as possible candidates to fill that role though.
Lars Nootbaar is still feeling discomfort in his back while swinging the bat.
Nootbaar took a few light swings off of a tee on Thursday and indicated that he's still dealing with discomfort. The Cardinals obviously aren't going to push him until he feels that he is ready, so he's still a ways away from a potential return to the active roster. Nootbaar has been shelved since May 30 due to a lower back contusion.
Mets sent C Tomás Nido outright to Triple-A Syracuse.
The 29-year-old backstop passed through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as extra catching depth for the Mets at the Triple-A level. Nido has hit just .125 (7-for-56) in 22 games with the Mets this season.
Yankees' skipper Aaron Boone told reporters on Friday that Greg Allen is expected to miss 6-to-8 weeks with his hip flexor strain.
It didn't sound initially as though Allen was going to be looking at an extended absence when he landed on the injured list over the weekend, but it looks like he will indeed be out for a while. He'll be shelved until after the All-Star break at a minimum -- and it could be August before he's able to return to action.
Jon Singleton is not in the Brewers' starting lineup for Friday's matchup against the Athletics.
Since joining the Brewers on June 3, Singleton has started every game against right-handed pitching, and has now sat in each game against a left-handed starter. Owen Miller will get the call at first base for the Brewers on Friday night and will bat leadoff against Sam Moll and the Athletics.
Luke Raley is absent from the Rays' starting lineup for Friday night's tilt against the Rangers.
As is typically the case, Raley will take seat with a left-hander on the mound for the opposition -- in this case Andrew Heaney of the Rangers. Harold Ramirez will function as the Rays' designated hitter on Friday night while Manuel Margot will draw a start in right field and bat eighth for the Rays.
