Padres designated OF David Dahl for assignment.
The Padres needed to free up a spot on their 40-man roster with Adrian Morejon being activated from the 60-day injured list, and Dahl looks to be the odd-man out this time around. The 29-year-old has spent the bulk of the 2023 season at Triple-A El Paso where he has slashed .265/.342/.382 with one homer and 10 RBI in 76 plate appearances. There's a decent chance he'll pass through waivers unclaimed and continue to function as extra outfield depth for the Padres.
Padres activated LHP Adrian Morejon from the 60-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A El Paso.
The clock on the left-hander's minor league rehab assignment was running out and the Padres didn't feel like he was quite ready to return to the big league roster, so he'll continue to build back up at Triple-A. Morejon had been sidelined since spring training due to a left elbow sprain.
Tanner Rainey (elbow) threw 10 pitches off the mound on Tuesday as he continues his recovery from Tommy John surgery.
The right-hander is targeting a return to the Nationals late in the 2023 season and so far there's no reason to believe that he won't make that timeline.
Eduardo Rodriguez (finger) was cleared to play catch on Tuesday following his visit with a specialist in Philadelphia.
No word yet on what news the Tigers got exactly from that visit, but it's certainly encouraging that Rodriguez went right out and started throwing the ball on Tuesday. The 30-year-old hurler is expected to miss 6-to-8 weeks due to a ruptured pulley in his left index finger.
Matt Chapman was held out of the Blue Jays' starting lineup on Tuesday night after having an infected ingrown toenail removed.
Jays' skipper John Schneider said that Chapman is doing well and should be able to return to the lineup on Wednesday. He could also be available off the bench on Tuesday night. Santiago Espinal is starting in his place at the hot corner and will bat ninth against Hunter Brown and the Astros.
Francisco Álvarez is not in the Mets' starting lineup for Tuesday's matchup against the Braves.
It looks to be just a routine day of rest for the hard-hitting 21-year-old backstop. Omar Narvaez will jump right back into the Mets' starting lineup and will bat ninth against Braves' right-hander Bryce Elder on Tuesday evening in Atlanta.
Victor Robles (back) is expected to begin his minor league rehab assignment over the weekend.
Robles has been taking batting practice without issue as he closes in on a return to the Nationals. The speedy outfielder has been shelved since May 7 due to back spasms. Prior to landing on the injured list, he was hitting .292/.388/.360 with zero homers, eight RBI and eight stolen bases through his first 107 plate appearances.
Amed Rosario (knee) remains absent from the Guardians' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Red Sox.
It'll be Gabriel Arias at shortstop on Tuesday night as Rosario will sit out his second straight game due to left knee soreness. It's worth noting that shortstop prospect Brayan Rocchio was sent back to Triple-A Columbus earlier this week, which seems to foreshadow that Rosario will avoid a trip to the injured list. We'll see.
Dodgers optioned RHP Tayler Scott to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Scott has made just one relief appearance this season for the Dodgers and will head back to the minors with righty reliever Nick Robertson coming up from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Dodgers selected the contract of RHP Nick Robertson from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Robertson was a seventh-round selection by the Dodgers in the 2019 MLB Draft and will be making his major league debut when he gets into a game. The 24-year-old righty has posted a solid 2.13 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 37/7 K/BB ratio across 25 1/3 innings (24 appearances) this season for Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Jose Altuve (oblique) remains absent from the Astros' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays.
Altuve will miss his fourth consecutive game on Tuesday night due to a lingering oblique issue, but is expected to return to Houston's lineup for Wednesday's series finale. It'll be Mauricio Dubón making another start at the keystone and leading off in his absence.
Rays recalled RHP Cooper Criswell from Triple-A Durham.
Criswell gets the call back to the majors with lefty Josh Fleming officially put on the injured list. The 26-year-old righty figures to take the ball at some point during Wednesday's game against the Twins for a bulk relief appearance. He's compiled an underwhelming 6.11 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 18/6 K/BB ratio across 17 2/3 innings (five appearances) this season in the majors.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is absent from the Diamondbacks' starting lineup for the second consecutive game on Tuesday.
There hasn't been any word yet about any apparent injury or illness, but it's odd to see the hot-hitting outfielder sitting for a second straight day. Emmanuel Rivera will function as the Diamondbacks' designated hitter and bat fifth against Jake Irvin and the Nationals on Tuesday evening in Washington.
Gunnar Henderson (back) remained out of the Orioles' starting lineup for Tuesday's series opener against the Brewers.
Henderson sat out Sunday's game as well after he was removed from Saturday's contest due to discomfort in his lower back. Fortunately, he's feeling much improved on Tuesday and told reporters that he expects to return to the lineup on Wednesday. Ramon Urias will draw a start at third base for the Orioles on Tuesday with Ryan O'Hearn serving as the designated hitter against Freddy Peralta and the Brewers.
J.B. Bukauskas (neck) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Tuesday with Triple-A Nashville.
Bukauskas landed on the injured list with a neck strain back on May 20 and will likely require a couple rehab outings before returning to Milwaukee's bullpen mix in a middle relief role.
Astros signed INF Luis Aviles Jr. to a minor league contract.
Aviles Jr. provides the Astros with some extra organizational infield depth. The 28-year-old infielder was released last month by the Padres and was able to find another opportunity with Houston.
Marlins optioned RHP George Soriano to Triple-A Jacksonville.
Soriano earned an ultra-rare three-inning save over the weekend against the Athletics and has been shipped back to the minors to make room for closer A.J. Puk to return from the injured list. The 24-year-old righty figures to be back in a couple weeks.
Blue Jays designated RHP Zach Thompson for assignment.
Toronto needed to free up a spot on their 40-man roster and Thompson wound up drawing the short straw. He hasn't appeared in the majors this season after being acquired from the Pirates back in January.
Blue Jays optioned INF Ernie Clement to Triple-A Buffalo.
Clement heads back to the minors with versatile infielder Santiago Espinal returning from the injured list ahead of Tuesday's game against the Astros.
Blue Jays optioned RHP Jay Jackson to Triple-A Buffalo.
Jackson has been sent back to the minors with veteran starter Chris Bassitt returning from the injured list.
