Andrue Monasterio (head) returned to the Brewers' starting lineup on Monday.

Jun 05   5:14 PM

The 25-year-old infielder was pulled from Sunday's game after he caught a blow to the face from Will Benson on a pickoff attempt at second base. He avoided any serious injury though and woke up feeling much better on Monday. He'll start at shortstop and bat second against rookie left-hander Andrew Abbott on Monday evening in Cincinnati.

The Brewers announced Monday that Darin Ruf is dealing with a non-displaced fracture of his right knee -- in addition to the deep laceration that initially landed him on the injured list.

Jun 05   5:14 PM

Hence, the move to the 60-day IL on Monday. The injury comes with a 6-to-8 week recovery timeframe, which means that Ruf won't be ready to rejoin the Brewers until sometime after the All-Star break.

Rougned Odor (groin) returned to the Padres' starting lineup for Monday night's tilt against the Cubs.

Jun 05   5:14 PM

Odor suffered a left groin strain during Friday's ballgame, and the initial assumption was that he was going to require a trip to the injured list. Instead, he'll return to action after missing just two ballgames. Odor is slashing just .216/.303/.420 with four homers, 17 RBI and two stolen bases in 88 at-bats with the Padres this season. He'll get the start at second base and hit atop the Padres' lineup against Kyle Hendricks and the Cubs on Monday evening in San Diego.

Brewers optioned INF Mike Brosseau to Triple-A Nashville.

Jun 05   4:36 PM

Brosseau has been shipped to the minors to make room on Milwaukee's active roster for Luis Urías to return ahead of Monday's series opener against the Reds. The 29-year-old infielder has struggled to a .205/.256/.397 triple-slash line with four homers and eight RBI across 78 plate appearances over 29 games this year in a reserve role.

Astros optioned C César Salazar to Triple-A Sugar Land.

Jun 05   4:36 PM

Salazar has been jettisoned to the minors to make room for infielder Grae Kessinger to join Houston's active roster ahead of Monday's series opener against the Blue Jays. The 27-year-old backup catcher has batted .143 (2-for-14) across 10 games this season in his first taste of the majors.

Astros selected the contract of INF Grae Kessinger from Triple-A Sugar Land.

Jun 05   4:36 PM

Kessinger earns his first trip to the majors after slashing .284/.400/.443 with six homers and two stolen bases across 221 plate appearances this season for Triple-A Sugar Land. The 25-year-old former second-round selection offers plenty of defensive versatility and projects as a utility specialist at the highest level.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. (toe) is scheduled to be re-evaluated on Wednesday.

Jun 05   4:36 PM

Chisholm was given a timeline of 4-to-6 weeks when he landed on the injured list in mid-May with his turf toe, so there's a chance that this appointment could lead to clearance to resume some baseball activities. The Marlins remain hopeful that he'll be able to return to the lineup at some point in the middle of June.

Johnny Cueto (ankle) is scheduled to face live hitters in a batting practice session on Tuesday.

Jun 05   4:36 PM

The right-hander continues to work his way back from a left ankle sprain and has been throwing since mid-May. If he makes it through Tuesday's session without any issues, he could then be cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment. The 37-year-old hurler has been shelved due to multiple injuries since making his Marlins' debut on April 3.

Luis Urías is starting at third base and batting sixth for the Brewers in his return from the 60-day injured list on Monday.

Jun 05   4:36 PM

The 26-year-old is expected to return to an everyday role in the Brewers' lineup, with most of his action likely coming at the hot corner. This will be his first big league action since suffering a high-grade left hamstring strain on Opening Day.

Leody Taveras (knee) returned to the Rangers' starting lineup for Monday night's battle against the Cardinals.

Jun 05   4:36 PM

Taveras was held out of the Rangers' lineup on Sunday due to a bruised right knee that he sustained on a slide during Saturday's contest -- but it appears to have just been a minor issue. The 24-year-old outfielder has been terrific this season -- slashing .306/.360/.452 with three long balls, 23 RBI and five swipes through his first 44 ballgames. He's batting ninth and starting in center field on Monday night against Adam Wainwright and the Cardinals.

Astros transferred RHP Luis Garcia to the 60-day injured list.

Jun 05   4:36 PM

The right-hander underwent successful Tommy John surgery in mid-May and will miss the remainder of the 2023 season -- and the start of the 2024 campaign -- while recovering. This was merely done as a procedural move to free up a spot on the Astros' 40-man roster.

Brewers transferred 1B Darin Run from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.

Jun 05   3:52 PM

The procedural move opens up a spot on Milwaukee's 40-man roster for third baseman Luis Urías to return from the 60-day injured list. Ruf will now be out until August after suffering a right knee laceration last Friday.

Zach Pop (hamstring) threw a bullpen session on Monday.

Jun 05   3:24 PM

Pop has made a pair of minor league rehab appearances for Single-A Dunedin and figures to still be a few weeks away from returning to Toronto's relief mix. He's been on the shelf since early May due to a right hamstring strain.

Ramón Laureano is not in the Athletics' lineup for Monday's series opener against the Pirates.

Jun 05   3:24 PM

Laureano is riding an eight-game hitting streak since May 27, and is coming off a two-hit effort that included a pair of RBI and one stolen base during Sunday's series finale against the Marlins. It'll be Seth Brown in right field on Monday evening against the Pirates.

Danny Jansen (groin) resumed running on Monday.

Jun 05   3:24 PM

Jansen has been out since late May with a left groin strain and appears to be extremely close to heading out on a minor league rehab assignment.

Jean Segura is not in the Marlins' lineup for Monday's game against the Royals.

Jun 05   3:05 PM

It appears to be a routine maintenance day for Segura with versatile super-utility specialist Jon Berti starting at third base on Monday evening.

Carlos Hernández (thumb) will serve as the Royals' opener on Monday against the Marlins.

Jun 05   3:05 PM

Hernández hasn't pitched since exiting a relief outing last Friday against the Rockies due to a right thumb issue, so he's unlikely to work very deep into this one. It'll be Mike Mayers following him for a bulk relief appearance during Monday's series opener in Miami.

Randy Arozarena is not in the Rays' lineup for Monday's series finale against the Red Sox.

Jun 05   3:05 PM

It's a rare day off for Arozarena, who started both games of Saturday's twin bill in addition to Sunday's contest at Fenway Park over the weekend. He'll get a breather on Monday night with Josh Lowe and Luke Raley in the corner outfield spots for Tampa Bay.

Tony Santillan (back, knee) is scheduled to face hitters this week in a live batting practice session.

Jun 05   3:05 PM

Santillan has been out all season due to a lower back strain and a right knee strain that he suffered while on a minor league rehab assignment. Barring any setbacks, he should be ready to return in a middle relief role sometime later this month.

Vinnie Pasquantino is not in the Royals' lineup for Monday's series opener against the Marlins.

Jun 05   3:05 PM

It appears to be a scheduled off day for Pasquantino, who has made 11 consecutive starts for Kansas City since May 22. It'll be Nick Pratto filling in at the cold corner on Monday evening.
