Ronald Acuña Jr. finished 3-for-5 with a homer, three RBI and a steal against the Tigers in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader.
It's the third time this year that Acuña has homered and stolen a base in the same game. He currently has 14 homers and 29 steals through 67 games. Last year, he had 15 homers and 29 steals in 119 games.
Reese Olson surrendered seven runs -- six earned -- in 3 1/3 innings Wednesday in a loss to the Braves.
Olson (0-2, 6.08 ERA) got just four missed swings on 89 pitches today. He was solid in his first two starts, so he should stick for now. However, if he's not better next time out, he might find himself back in Triple-A.
Working with a four-run lead, Raisel Iglesias gave up a run on three hits in the ninth Wednesday in the first game of the doubleheader against the Tigers.
It would have been two runs if pretty much anyone besides Miguel Cabrera was on second base for the third hit of the inning. Iglesias's velocity isn't down much from last year and he's still getting plenty of swings and misses, but he's been shaky since returning from his shoulder issue. He's now given up eight hits in his last two innings of work, and that's pretty much a typical month's worth of hits from him. Overall, he has a 4.32 ERA in 16 2/3 innings. It'll be interesting to see what happens if the Braves have a save chance in Game 2 today. Iglesias can't be an option after throwing 31 pitches. Perhaps A.J. Minter will be; he threw 13 pitches in a scoreless seventh in Game 1. If not, it'll come down to Collin McHugh and Joe Jiménez late in the game.
Stephen Nogosek has elected free agency.
Nogosek has refused an outright assignment to Triple-A Syracuse and will instead test the free agent waters in search of a new opportunity. The 28-year-old righty has made 13 relief appearances this season for the Mets and should be able to latch on somewhere else in short order.
Ian Hamilton (groin) will face hitters on Thursday at Double-A Somerset.
Hamilton landed on the injured list back in mid-May with a right groin strain and should progress to a minor league rehab assignment later this week. The 27-year-old righty was a key reliever for New York earlier this season and would certainly give them a lift once he's ready to return.
Rangers designated C Sandy León for assignment.
León has been removed from Texas' 40-man roster with Sam Huff coming up from Triple-A Round Rock to take his spot on the Rangers' bench as a backup catcher. The 34-year-old journeyman got into 21 games this season and was batting .146 (6-for-41) with four RBI.
Rangers optioned RHP Owen White to Double-A Frisco.
White made his big league debut on Tuesday evening against the Angels, allowing three runs over two innings in relief. The 23-year-old top pitching prospect will head back to the upper minors for some additional seasoning, but could get another look at some point this summer.
Rangers recalled C Sam Huff from Triple-A Round Rock.
Huff gets the call back to the majors with the Rangers finally pulling the plug on veteran journeyman Sandy León in a backup role. The 25-year-old backstop provides the Rangers with some extra thump off the bench.
Rangers activated RHP Joe Barlow from the 15-day injured list.
Barlow will be available out of Texas' bullpen for Wednesday's game against the Angels following a two-week absence due to kidney stones.
Making his major league debut, Luis Matos went 1-for-3 with a run scored before coming out for a pinch-hitter Wednesday versus the Cardinals.
Matos delivered a groundball single in his first at-bat. It was disappointing to see him lifted in favor of Michael Conforto against a righty in the seventh, but with the Giants down and needing runs, it was hard to argue against the call. Matos should be the Giants' regular center fielder for now.
J.D. Davis has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 right ankle sprain.
It's the least severe sprain, but it likely means that Davis will require a trip to the injured list. He suffered the injury during Tuesday's win over the Cardinals and wound up sitting out Wednesday afternoon's matinee.
Nathaniel Lowe is not in the Rangers' lineup for Wednesday's showdown against the Angels.
It's an extremely rare day off for Lowe with Ezequiel Duran getting a look at the cold corner on Wednesday evening against the Angels. The 27-year-old slugger holds a solid .784 OPS with nine homers and 39 RBI across 300 plate appearances through 66 games this season.
Justin Steele (forearm) threw a bullpen session on Tuesday.
Steele is targeting a return to Chicago's starting rotation for Saturday's game against the Orioles and appears to be on track. There should be some official confirmation regarding his impending return sometime later this week.
TJ Friedl is not in the Reds' lineup for Wednesday's showdown against the Royals.
It appears to be a routing off day for Friedl, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI on Tuesday in the Reds' win over the Royals. It'll be José Barrero patrolling center field on Wednesday evening at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.
Kevin Kiermaier is in center field and batting seventh on Wednesday against the Orioles.
Kiermaier went 1-for-4 on Tuesday in his return to Toronto's lineup following a three-game absence due to a left wrist contusion that he suffered last Thursday when he was hit by a pitch.
Gleyber Torres is not in the Yankees' lineup for Wednesday's showdown against the Mets.
It'll be veteran DJ LeMahieu getting the nod at second base for Wednesday's Subway Series finale at Citi Field. It appears to be a routine maintenance day for Torres.
Twins acquired RHP Taylor Floyd from the Brewers.
Floyd is the player to be named later to complete the Trevor Megill trade. The 25-year-old righty was a 10th-round selection in the 2019 MLB Draft and has made just 21 relief appearances above High-A since being drafted. He's a pure lottery ticket for Minnesota.
Edwin Ríos (groin) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Wednesday with Triple-A Iowa.
Ríos landed on the injured list last week with a left groin strain and might wind up stationed at Triple-A Iowa once he's concluded a brief rehab stint. He's 2-for-28 in 18 games this season in the big leagues.
Pirates optioned OF Canaan Smith-Njigba to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Smith-Njigba has been sent to the minors to make room for Osvaldo Bido to make a spot start on Wednesday night against the Cubs. The 24-year-old outfielder is batting .125 (4-for-32) with five RBI and one stolen base across 15 games this season in the big leagues.
Masataka Yoshida is absent from the Red Sox' lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Rockies.
It'll be lefty-masher Rob Refsnyder in left field in place of Yoshida with southpaw Austin Gomber toeing the rubber for Colorado during Wednesday's series finale at Fenway Park.
