Andrés Giménez (leg) was held out of the Guardians' starting lineup on Tuesday.

Jun 13   6:32 PM

The dynamic second baseman was removed from Sunday's game against the Astros due to tightness in his left leg, and still isn't feeling ready to return after an off-day on Monday. The good news -- at least for the time being -- is that he hasn't been placed on the injured list and should still be considered day-to-day. Tyler Freeman will start in his place at second base and will bat sixth against Joe Musgrove and the Padres on Tuesday evening in San Diego.

Max Muncy is not in the Dodgers' starting lineup for Tuesday night's tilt against the White Sox.

Jun 13   6:32 PM

There hasn't been any word yet about any possible injury or illness, but it's odd to see Muncy not in there with an opposing right-hander (Lance Lynn) on the mound. Chris Taylor will covert the hot corner in his absence on Tuesday with Mookie Betts drawing another start at shortstop.

Phillies recalled RHP Luis Ortiz from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Jun 13   6:32 PM

He'll swap places with Yunior Marte in the Phillies' bullpen, providing them with a fresh arm on Tuesday night. Ortiz has appeared in eight games for the Phillies so far this season -- registering a 2.70 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and a 10/3 K/BB ratio over 10 innings. He'll function in a middle relief role for manager Rob Thomson.

Brewers' skipper Craig Counsell told reporters on Tuesday that Wade Miley (lat) will return from the injured list to start against the Pirates on Saturday.

Jun 13   6:16 PM

Before landing on the injured list in mid-May, Miley had done a nice job for the Brewers -- posting a 3.67 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and a 24/9 K/BB ratio over 41 2/3 innings of work. He'll be worth a look as a streaming option until he inevitably gets shelved again.

Gio Urshela (back) remains out of the Angels' starting lineup for Tuesday night's battle against the Rangers.

Jun 13   6:16 PM

Urshela felt something in his back on a swing prior to Monday's game, so the team is simply proceeding with caution as to not make things worse. As of now, they aren't expecting him to require a trip to the injured list.

Reds selected the contract of RHP Daniel Duarte from Triple-A Louisville.

Jun 13   5:56 PM

The 26-year-old hurler has done a decent job in 26 appearances at Triple-A Louisville this season, posting a 3.49 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and a 32/14 K/BB ratio across 28 1/3 innings of work. He'll work in the middle innings for the Reds.

Reds designated RHP Joel Kuhnel for assignment.

Jun 13   5:56 PM

The 28-year-old right-hander has made just two appearances with the Reds this season -- compiling an 8.10 ERA, 2.40 WHIP and a 0/2 K/BB ratio in 3 1/3 innings of work. There's a decent chance that he'll pass through waivers unclaimed and continue to function as extra bullpen depth for the Reds at Triple-A Louisville.

Reds activated OF Henry Ramos from the 10-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Louisville.

Jun 13   5:56 PM

Ramos won't have to travel at all, as he was already at Triple-A Louisville on a minor league rehab assignment. The 31-year-old has hit just .242/.356/.306 with no homers, four RBI and a pair of stolen bases in 73 plate appearances with the big league club this season.

Andrew McCutchen is not in the Pirates' starting lineup for Tuesday's soggy showdown against the Cubs.

Jun 13   5:56 PM

They're calling for rain -- and a lot of it -- at Wrigley Field on Tuesday night, so it's not surprising to see the veteran outfielder get a night off so he can stay out of the elements. Josh Palacios will start in his place in right field and bat sixth for the Pirates against Jameson Taillon and the Cubs.

Ketel Marte is not in the Diamondbacks' starting lineup for Tuesday night's matchup against the Phillies.

Jun 13   5:56 PM

It looks to be just a regular day of rest for the hard-hitting second baseman. Josh Rojas will start in his place at second base and will bat seventh for the Diamondbacks against Zack Wheeler and the Phillies on Tuesday evening in Arizona.

Red Sox' manager Alex Cora told reporters on Tuesday that Adalberto Mondesi (knee) has been shut down from all baseball activities.

Jun 13   5:56 PM

Now, not only is he not progressing in his recovery from a torn ACL, now he's not able to do the few baseball activities that he had already been doing. At this point, it's hard to expect Mondesi to contribute anything to the Red Sox this season.

Blue Jays recalled RHP Bowden Francis from Triple-A Buffalo.

Jun 13   5:21 PM

Francis was just optioned back to Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday, but he'll come right back with Adam Cimber heading to the paternity leave list prior to Tuesday's game against the Orioles. The 27-year-old hurler has appeared in just one game for the Jays this season -- posting a 3.38 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and a 3/0 K/BB ratio over 2 2/3 innings. He'll function in middle relief.

Blue Jays activated C Danny Jansen from the 10-day injured list.

Jun 13   5:21 PM

Jansen had been shelved since late May due to a left groin strain. He looked terrific on a recent minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Buffalo over the weekend though and is ready to make an impact upon his return to the Blue Jays. Before landing on the injured list, the 28-year-old backstop had been slashing .207/.273/.413 with six homers and 26 RBI in 132 plate appearances. He'll return to share the load behind the plate with Alejandro Kirk.

Blue Jays optioned C Tyler Heineman to Triple-A Buffalo.

Jun 13   5:21 PM

With Danny Jansen returning from the injured list on Tuesday night, the Jays didn't have use for a third catcher any longer, which forces Heineman off of the active roster. The 31-year-old went 4-for-19 (.211) with zero RBI and a 4/4 K/BB ratio during his brief time with the big league club this season. He'll continue to function as extra catching depth at the Triple-A level.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters on Tuesday that Enrique Hernández is going to see less action at shortstop moving forward.

Jun 13   5:21 PM

Hernández has been absolutely brutal at the position this season, so it's not a surprise to hear that he'll focus primarily on second base and center field going forward. Cora also noted that he won't have a set starting shortstop, that it will be more of a fluid situation. Trevor Story (elbow) can't get healthy quickly enough.

Red Sox' skipper Alex Cora told reporters on Tuesday that Justin Turner will see more action at first base going forward.

Jun 13   5:21 PM

That increased action for Turner is going to come at the expense of Triston Casas. The 23-year-old has really struggled to get things going offensively this season -- slashing .197/.317/.366 with seven homers, 19 RBI and a 59/33 K/BB ratio across 218 plate appearances. Cora noted that they'll continue to work with him at the big league level -- rather than sending him down -- but that he's going to get fewer chances at least in the interim.

Cubs optioned RHP Jeremiah Estrada to Triple-A Iowa.

Jun 13   5:21 PM

The right-hander has been disastrous in 12 outings with the Cubs this season -- registering a 6.75 ERA, 2.25 WHIP and 13/12 K/BB ratio over 10 2/3 ininngs. He'll attempt to work through his issues at the Triple-A level. Anthony Kay has his contract selected from Triple-A Iowa in a corresponding move to take his place in the team's bullpen.

Cubs selected the contract of LHP Anthony Kay from Triple-A Iowa.

Jun 13   5:21 PM

He'll take the place of the struggling Jeremiah Estrada in the Cubs' bullpen. The 28-year-old southpaw -- and former top prospect -- has pitched to a 4.50 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and a 32/15 K/BB ratio over 28 innings at Triple-A Iowa this season. He'll give manager David Ross another option to deploy in the middle innings.

Cubs transferred RHP Nick Burdi to the 60-day injured list.

Jun 13   5:21 PM

Burdi is still recovering from his emergency appendectomy and now won't be eligible to return until late July. The reason that this move was made on Tuesday, is that the Cubs needed to free up a spot on their 40-man roster for Anthony Kay who had his contract selected from Triple-A Iowa.

Twins' manager Rocco Baldelli told reporters on Tuesday that Byron Buxton (ribs) needs at least a few more days before returning from the injured list.

Jun 13   5:21 PM

Buxton has been shelved since June 3 due to a left rib contusion that he suffered when he was hit by a pitch. He's eligible to return on Tuesday, but it sounds like a more likely timeframe pegs his return at some point during the Twins' four-game weekend series against the Tigers.
