Pirates sent RHP Chase De Jong outright to Triple-A Indianapolis.
De Jong went unclaimed on waivers last week after being designated for assignment and will remain with the Pirates as organizational pitching depth. The 29-year-old righty has made six relief appearances this season at the big league level.
Johnny Cueto (ankle) tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings on Sunday in a minor league rehab start for Double-A Pensacola.
Cueto scattered four hits and one walk, throwing 45 pitches (32 strikes) in his first rehab outing since suffering a left ankle sprain back in mid-May. The 37-year-old veteran righty has been on the shelf since suffering a right biceps strain during his Marlins debut and will likely need a couple more weeks before he's an option for Miami's starting rotation.
Wade Miley (lat) threw five shutout innings on Sunday in a minor league rehab start for Double-A Biloxi.
Miley needed just 65 pitches (44 strikes) to work five strong frames in his first rehab outing since landing on the injured list back in mid-May with a left lat strain. He piled up five strikeouts and only allowed five baserunners over five frames. He figures to rejoin Milwaukee's starting rotation in the next couple weeks.
Alex Wood (back) gave up one run over three innings on Sunday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Sacramento.
Wood threw 53 pitches (33 strikes) in his first rehab outing and figures to be ready to return to San Francisco's pitching mix as a versatile swingman in the next few weeks, if not sooner. The 32-year-old southpaw landed on the injured list earlier this month with a lower back strain.
Red Sox sent LHP Matt Dermody outright to Triple-A Worcester.
Dermody was lit up by the Guardians last Thursday in a spot start for the Red Sox and was immediately designated for assignment following the contest. His social media posts from a few years ago, and subsequent clarification to reporters last week, certainly didn't help matters. He'll presumably head back to Triple-A Worcester for now.
Brandon Belt is considered day-to-day after an MRI on his injured left hamstring revealed no structural damage.
While Belt wasn't in the Jays' lineup on Sunday, they're hopeful that he could be ready to return after Monday's off-day. For the season, the 35-year-old is hitting .263/.378/.434 with four homers and 16 RBI in 180 plate appearances for the Blue Jays.
The Mets are discussing the possibility of skipping Tylor Megill's next scheduled start.
With the upcoming off-days that they have on their schedule, the Mets have the luxury of skipping one of their starters if they choose to do so -- without disrupting the rest of their staring rotation. Megill has been especially brutal as of late -- giving up 22 runs (16 earned) in 16 2/3 innings over his last four starts. He should be nowhere near fantasy lineups at the moment.
Ronny Mauricio is set to undergo an MRI exam on his injured ankle.
The 22-year-old suffered an ankle injury at Triple-A Syracuse when he was involved in a collision last week. He's still feeling soreness in the ankle, so the Mets want to take the proper precaution and get things checked out just to be on the safe side. Mauricio has been terrific at Triple-A Syracuse this season -- slashing .320/.360/.524 with eight homers, 35 RBI and nine stolen bases over 60 games.
Clarke Schmidt pitched well in a no-decision against the Red Sox on Sunday night, allowing just one run on four hits over his 5 1/3 innings of work.
The right-hander struck out four batters on the night and didn't issue a base on balls. The lone tally against him came on a solo shot off the bat of Justin Turner in the second inning. Schmidt generated seven swings and misses on 82 pitches in the ballgame, posting a CSW of 27 percent. He'll look to replicate this fine effort when he carries a 4.70 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 70/19 K/BB ratio (67 innings) into a rematch against the Red Sox in Boston on Saturday.
Jose Trevino went 1-for-4 and drove in both of the Yankees' runs in Sunday night's extra-inning loss to the Red Sox.
Trevino smacked a two-run single off of Brayan Bello in the second inning that gave the Yankees an early 2-0 lead -- but that would wind up being the extent of their scoring on the evening. The 30-year-old backstop has struggled mightily at the dish this season -- slashing a woeful .214/.258/.308 with three homers and 13 RBI in 38 games.
Kenley Jansen picked up his second victory of the season on Sunday, working a scoreless ninth inning against the Yankees.
Jansen came on to work the home half of the ninth inning with the score knotted at 2-2. He did his job -- retiring the Yankees in order, including one strikeout -- and was then the beneficiary when the Red Sox won it in the 10th inning. The 35-year-old hurler has been inconsistent in his first season with the Red Sox, posting a 3.32 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and a 25/12 K/BB ratio while recording 14 saves in 17 chances.
Justin Turner clubbed a solo home run on Sunday night, helping to power the Red Sox to an extra-inning victory over the Yankees.
Turner opened the scoring in the ballgame with a 373-foot (96.9 mph EV) solo shot off of Clarke Schmidt on the eighth pitch of his at-bat in the second inning. He also drew a walk in the ballgame, finishing the night 1-for-3. The 38-year-old has been a reliable contributor for the Red Sox this season -- slashing .265/.347/.416 with eight homers and 27 RBI.
Enrique Hernández delivered a go-ahead RBI single in the tenth inning on Sunday night, leading the Red Sox to a 3-2 victory over the Yankees.
Hernández drove in Adam Duvall with a one-out RBI single off of Ron Marinaccio in the top half of the tenth inning on Sunday to put the Red Sox ahead 3-2. That would wind up standing and securing the Red Sox a victory and a series-win against their hated rival. He also singled in the contest, finishing the night 2-for-4. On the season, the versatile 31-year-old is now hitting .231/.300/.361 to go with six homers and 28 RBI.
Jake Cronenworth blasted a two-run homer as the Padres fell to the Rockies on Sunday afternoon in Colorado.
Cronenworth victimized right-hander Dinelson Lamet for his 404-foot two-run shot in the fourth inning, giving the Padres a 3-1 lead. That would be his only hit in four at-bats on the afternoon. Overall, the 29-year-old has had a very rough season at the plate -- slashing a woeful .215/.325/.377 with just seven homers and 24 RBI.
Dinelson Lamet pitched decently in a no-decision against the Padres on Sunday, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits over his five innings of work.
The right-hander punched out five batters on the afternoon while issuing three free passes. The biggest blow against him came on a two-run blast off the bat of Jake Cronenworth in the fourth inning. Lamet generated 10 swings and misses on 91 pitches in the ballgame -- six on his slider -- while registering a CSW of 25 percent. He'll look to further improve upon his 10.38 ERA and 2.31 WHIP when he takes on the Braves in Atlanta on Friday.
Ryan McMahon belted a game-tying homer in the ninth inning on Sunday, helping to lead the Rockies to a comeback victory over the visiting Padres.
McMahon opened the ninth inning with a gargantuan 442-foot (108.9 mph EV) solo shot off of Tom Cosgrove that tied the game at 4-4. It was his only hit in four at-bats on the day, but played an integral role in the comeback win. For the season, the hard-hitting infielder is now slashing .261/.335/.479 with 10 homers and 37 RBI.
Nolan Gorman finished 0-for-4 with two strikeouts versus the Reds on Sunday.
Gorman is 6-for-47 with two homers and a 20/2 K/BB ratio in his last 14 games, dropping his OPS from 1.022 to .869. He's going to remain a lineup fixture against righties, but he should see less time versus lefties while cold.
Alexis Díaz threw a perfect ninth with a one-run lead for a save against the Cardinals on Sunday.
Díaz is 15-for-15 saving games. He also threw 20 pitches Saturday, so he's likely to get Monday off now. With Lucas Sims likewise having worked consecutive days, perhaps Buck Farmer will get a save chance.
Hunter Greene yielded three runs in 5 1/3 innings Sunday in a no-decision versus the Cardinals.
While their stuff looked nothing alike, Greene and Adam Wainwright had pretty much the same results today, with Wainwright getting one more out in a 3-3 game. Due to some hip soreness, Greene was making his first start in 10 days. He struck out nine today and has 38 strikeouts over 24 1/3 innings in his last four starts.
Blake Sabol went 2-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs on Sunday afternoon as the Giants annihilated the Cubs.
Sabol did his part in the massacre by contributing a two-run single in the fourth inning that extended the Giants' lead to 8-2. With his two-hit attack, he's now hitting .250/.321/.421 with seven homers, 20 RBI and two stolen bases over 168 plate appearances in what has been an impressive rookie season.
