Christian Yelich went 2-for-4 with a homer and a walk against the A's on Sunday.

Jun 11   7:38 PM

Because of his struggles against lefties, Yelich hit fifth today, the first time he's batted lower than cleanup in the Brewers lineup since one time in 2021. He went on to homer off JP Sears, so that's a good thing. It was just his second of the year versus a southpaw. He's batting .239/.292/.328 against lefties and .265/.378/.434 versus righties.

Freddy Peralta surrendered four runs in five innings Sunday in a loss to the A's.

Jun 11   7:38 PM

Leading off the fourth, Peralta allowed a single, hit a batter and then gave up back-to-back homers. Those were the only hits he gave up in the game, but they were sufficient to get him tagged with his sixth loss. He's looked better than his recent results have suggested, but he's been a big fantasy disappointment since a quick start. He'll face the Pirates next.

After Trevor May was pulled, Sam Long retired one of the two batters he faced for his second save Sunday against the Brewers.

Jun 11   7:38 PM

The A's would like for May to establish himself in the closer's role, but this was a setback for him. For Long, this makes two saves in two days after he pitched a scoreless 10th on Saturday. That ties him with May and the long departed Jeurys Familia for the team lead with two saves. He'll remain in the mix in the ninth for now, but that's still probably not enough to make him worth a spot in shallow leagues.

Trevor May walked three and was charged with three runs in the ninth Sunday against the Brewers.

Jun 11   7:38 PM

Brought in for the ninth with a five-run lead, May retired the first two batters he faced, only to go walk, single, walk, walk afterwards. Sam Long took over and gave up a two-run single before finishing up for a save. May came into this one with saves in his previous two appearances and having allowed just one run in 8 2/3 innings since coming off the IL, so the A's will likely keep using him with late leads for now.

JP Sears got his first win in 13 starts this year after allowing two runs in five innings Sunday as the A's bested the Brewers 8-6.

Jun 11   7:38 PM

This is what Sears has been giving the A's most times out; it was just finally enough to get him a win this time. He's not pitching deep into games, but he's allowed one or two earned runs in six straight starts. He's 1-3 with a 4.15 ERA.

Teoscar Hernández went 3-for-4 and clubbed a two-run homer on Sunday afternoon, but it wasn't nearly enough to lead the Mariners past the Angels.

Jun 11   7:38 PM

Hernández tagged Angels' starter Griffin Canning for his 403-foot (112.1 mph EV) two-run shot to get the Mariners on the board in the fourth inning. He also had a pair of singles in the ballgame. With the three-hit attack, the 30-year-old outfielder is now hitting .248/.292/.427 with 11 homers and 35 RBI on the season.

Griffin Canning picked up his fifth victory of the season on Sunday afternoon, limiting the Mariners to four runs (three earned) on seven hits over his five innings of work.

Jun 11   7:38 PM

The right-hander piled up seven strikeouts on the afternoon and didn't walk a batter. Most of the damage done against him came via the long ball, as Teoscar Hernández clubbed a two-run shot in the fourth inning and Mike Ford added a solo blast of his own in the fifth. Luckily for Canning -- and his fantasy managers -- the Angels' offense provided plenty of run support for him in this one. Canning generated 11 swings and misses on 101 pitches in the game, posting a CSW of 32 percent. He'll tote a 4.56 ERA and 1.26 WHIP into a premium matchup against the Royals in Kansas City on Saturday. He's definitely worth a look there as a streaming option in shallower mixed leagues where he may still be available.

Taylor Ward blasted a leadoff homer off of Logan Gilbert on Sunday afternoon, helping to propel the Angels to victory over the Mariners.

Jun 11   7:38 PM

Ward started the home half of the first inning by launching the second pitch that he saw from Gilbert for a 411-foot (104.3 mph EV) solo shot to give the Angels an early 1-0 advantage. He also drew a pair of walks and scored two runs in the contest, finishing the day 1-for-2 officially. He has shown signs recently of breaking out of his season-long slump and is now hitting .240/.314/.378 with eight homers and 25 RBI on the season.

A.J. Puk tossed a perfect ninth on Sunday for his first save since coming off the injured list.

Jun 11   7:12 PM

Puk has five strikeouts in three scoreless innings since returning from nerve irritation in his elbow. Those holding on to Dylan Floro can probably move on.

Braxton Garrett struck out nine in 5 1/3 scoreless frames against the White Sox on Sunday.

Jun 11   7:12 PM

Nine strikeouts are a season high for Garrett. The Marlins pulled him with none on in the sixth because they didn't want him facing Luis Robert Jr. for a third time, but the White Sox went on to score three runs in the inning, costing Garrett a chance at a victory. He's been pretty solid in amassing a 4.10 ERA -- 11 of the 29 runs he's allowed came in one outing --- but he has just two wins to show for it, even though the Marlins are 9-4 when he starts.

Kendall Graveman took a blown save and a loss after allowing three runs -- two earned -- in the ninth Sunday against the Marlins.

Jun 11   7:12 PM

Graveman had gone 16 straight appearances without allowing a run, but his streak came to an end quickly today, as the formerly homerless Jean Segura took him deep to start the ninth. He was charged with two more runs afterwards, though one of those batters reached base on catcher's interference.

Lucas Giolito allowed only one run through seven innings Sunday against the Marlins.

Jun 11   7:12 PM

Giolito left with a 5-1 lead, only to watch the bullpen blow it in the eighth and ninth. While Giolito didn't bring no-hit stuff to the mound this time, he was good enough against everyone besides Jorge Soler. It's the sixth time in 14 starts this year that he's allowed one or no runs.

Yoán Moncada struck out all four times up as the White Sox's No. 2 hitter Sunday.

Jun 11   7:12 PM

Having Moncada play through back soreness is going about as well as anyone besides the White Sox would expect. He's hit .200/.272/.295 in 103 plate appearances since coming off the injured list last month. He's 5-for-35 with one RBI since the White Sox confirmed that he was still fighting pain on May 31.

Jean Segura finally hit his first homer in the ninth inning Sunday against the White Sox.

Jun 11   7:12 PM

Segura's homer to lead off the top of the ninth brought the Marlins to within one run, and they went on to score twice more to prevail. Segura had gone 213 plate appearances without homering this year, even though his exit velocity numbers are pretty much business as usual. He had 10 in 387 plate appearances for the Phillies last season.

Logan Gilbert was knocked around in a losing effort against the Angels on Sunday afternoon, giving up seven runs (six earned) on eight hits in three-plus innings of work.

Jun 11   7:12 PM

The right-hander struck out only two batters on the afternoon and didn't issue a walk. You have to wonder if the decision to push Bryce Miller back and to move Gilbert up a day had any impact on his poor performance on Sunday. As part of the damage done against him he served up a pair of solo home runs -- one to Taylor Ward to start the game and another to Zach Neto in the second inning. Gilbert got just four whiffs on 58 pitches in the ballgame, posting a CSW of 28 percent. He'll carry a 4.38 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and an 81/13 K/BB ratio (74 innings) into Sunday's matchup against the White Sox.

Kevin Gausman was roughed up by the Twins on Sunday, surrendering six runs in 4 2/3 innings.

Jun 11   6:37 PM

Gausman gave up seven hits, including a Donovan Solano homer, and walked four. He also had four strikeouts, making this the first time since July 24, 2021 that he finished a game without more strikeouts than walks. It's the third time this year that he's allowed at least six runs, though he's still never stopped at four or five. He's 5-3 with a 3.12 ERA.

Cavan Biggio hit a three-run homer off Emilio Pagán in the bottom of the eighth to propel the Blue Jays past the Twins 7-6 on Sunday.

Jun 11   6:37 PM

It's easily Biggio's biggest hit of the year. The Blue Jays were down 6-4 in the eighth when Biggio hit one 423 feet off Pagán. It gave him five homers and 11 RBI in 107 plate appearances this season. He's still batting just .186.

Donovan Solano hit his first homer and walked three times Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Jun 11   6:37 PM

Solano had 13 doubles in 168 plate appearances but no homers before taking Kevin Gausman deep today. The 401-foot shot to center barely got over Daulton Varsho's glove. Solano is hitting .283/.370/.388 this season, and he's getting extra playing time of late with Joey Gallo and Byron Buxton on the IL.

Royce Lewis went 3-for-4 with two RBI versus the Blue Jays on Sunday.

Jun 11   6:37 PM

Lewis had hits in seven straight at-bats before striking out in his final plate appearance today. He's batting .317/.317/.488 with two homers and nine RBI in 10 games for the Twins.

Louie Varland gave up four runs in 4 2/3 innings Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Jun 11   6:37 PM

Varland had a 6-1 lead going into the bottom of the fifth, but he gave up three runs then and was pulled before he'd qualify for the win. Varland's ERA is up to 4.70, and it seems like a given that he'll be replaced in the Twins rotation once Kenta Maeda comes off the IL.
