Nate Pearson got his fourth win in relief after pitching two scoreless innings Sunday against the Twins.

Jun 11   6:37 PM

Pearson blew a lead to vulture one of those wins last week, but he's been very good for the most part, amassing a 2.05 ERA in 22 innings since being recalled on Apr. 24. He has a 25/6 K/BB ratio.

Nick Castellanos went 2-for-5 and hit a two-run homer against the Dodgers in Sunday's win.

Jun 11   6:04 PM

Castellanos is 17-for-39 with three homers and 10 RBI in 10 games this month. He's quietly put up a .312/.358/.498 line for the season.

Caleb Ferguson took a loss as an opener after giving up one run in the first Sunday against the Phillies.

Jun 11   6:04 PM

Ferguson took losses in the ninth in each of his previous two appearances, but this is new. He had a 3-0 record and a 2.14 ERA a week ago, and it was looking like he'd be quite a factor in the closing mix. Now he's 3-3 with a 3.91 ERA.

Taijuan Walker blanked the Dodgers for five innings Sunday in the Phillies' 7-3 win.

Jun 11   6:04 PM

Walker was none too happy about being lifted after 83 pitches, but it seemed like the right move, particularly since all the Phillies' key relievers were rested. Walker got the win, improving his record to 6-3 with a 4.67 ERA. He's a nice streaming option this week with Oakland on the schedule.

Trea Turner went 3-for-5 with a double, a steal and three runs scored versus the Dodgers on Sunday.

Jun 11   6:04 PM

Turner had been faring better since being dropped to the middle of the order, but he was back up to second today, with Nick Castellanos and Bryce Harper each getting dropped a spot. It worked out for the Phillies in a 7-3 win, so a similar alignment is likely in store for Monday.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed Sunday that Julio Urías (hamstring) will indeed require at least one minor league rehab assignment before joining the Dodgers' rotation.

Jun 11   6:04 PM

The left-hander will throw a pair of bullpen sessions during the upcoming week before heading out on that assignment. Urías has been sidelined since May 20 due to a left hamstring strain. If all goes according to plan, the Dodgers are still hoping to have him back in the fold before the end of the month.

Kyle Gibson notched his eighth win by allowing three runs in 6 1/3 innings Sunday against the Royals.

Jun 11   5:31 PM

Gibson's steadiness has been paying off for him and the Orioles. The team is 9-5 when he pitches and three of those losses came in games in which the Orioles were shut out. Gibson has a 3.90 ERA and a 58/25 K/BB ratio in 83 innings.

Salvador Perez hit a two-run homer and doubled against the Orioles in Sunday's loss.

Jun 11   5:31 PM

The homer was his 236th, tying him with Hall of Fame catcher Gabby Hartnett on the all-time list. Only 13 players to catch at least 50% of the time have more career homers than Perez. Mike Piazza tops that list at 427. Perez should overtake Mickey Tettleton (245) and Ted Simmons (248) later this year and Javy López (260), Roy Campanella (260) and maybe Jorge Posada (275) next year.

Drew Waters ended up 0-for-4 with three strikeouts versus the Orioles on Sunday.

Jun 11   5:31 PM

Waters had two hits in his first appearance off the IL a couple of weeks ago, but he's 5-for-34 with 14 strikeouts since. The Royals would love for him to make center field his own in Kansas City, but if he doesn't pick it up soon, it's possible he could be demoted once Kyle Isbel returns.

Ryan O'Hearn went 3-for-3 with a homer, two walks and four runs scored Sunday against the Royals.

Jun 11   5:31 PM

It's the first time in his career that he's scored four times. Four runs scored was actually a good month for him in Kansas City. O'Hearn can't possibly have any animosity against his old team, considering that the Royals kept him around much longer than his play warranted. They even tendered him and signed him to a major league deal for this season, which the Orioles assumed when they claimed him off waivers. O'Hearn is hitting .328/.380/.609 in 71 plate appearances for his new team. His exit velocity numbers haven't changed much; Statcast says he typically underachieved in Kansas City and that he's overachieving now. He'll keep playing pretty regularly until he cools off.

Ramón Urías had four hits, including two doubles, in five at-bats versus the Royals on Sunday.

Jun 11   5:31 PM

Urías has two career four-hit games, both of which have come this season. He's a part-timer for the Orioles right now, though with his league-average bat and plus defense, he'd be playing regularly for plenty of teams. He's hitting .272/.349/.404.

Bryce Elder took his first loss after giving up five runs in 5 1/3 innings Sunday against the Nationals.

Jun 11   5:11 PM

Elder was cruising along until the sixth, when he gave up a double, a single and a homer to begin the inning. The homer from Jeimer Candelario would have been an out in about half of the league's ballparks, but it bounced off the top of the wall and over in Atlanta. Elder went on to retire one more batter and then gave up a single than ended his outing. Kirby Yates took over and immediately served up a homer, adding one more run to Elder's total. Elder will get the Rockies in Atlanta next week, so he's an easy play then.

Trevor Williams picked up a victory Sunday after allowing two runs in five innings versus the Braves.

Jun 11   5:11 PM

The Nationals were trailing 2-1 when Williams threw his final pitch, but they went on to score five runs in the top of the sixth, putting Williams in line for the win. The bullpen handled things nicely from there. Williams is 3-4 with a 4.11 ERA.

Dominic Smith hit a two-run homer in the sixth Sunday in helping the Nationals top the Braves 6-2.

Jun 11   5:11 PM

Smith's homer came off an oddly slow fastball from Kirby Yates immediately after Yates entered the game. Yates threw the pitch 90.6 mph pretty much down the middle, and the recently powerless Smith teed off on it, hitting it 440 feet for just his second homer in 254 plate appearances this season. He's lucky the Nationals haven't explored alternatives at first base or DH, but there's still the chance that he'll pick it up.

Harold Ramírez finished 3-for-3 with an RBI and a steal versus the Rangers on Sunday.

Jun 11   5:11 PM

Ramírez was actually lifted for a pinch-hitter before his fourth plate appearance, as the Rays figured Josh Lowe had a better chance against a right-hander. He probably did, too, but he flied out in his lone at-bat. Ramírez is hitting .306/.351/.517 with nine homers this season, but he does have big platoon splits; he's crushed lefties to the tune of an 1.165 OPS. He's been pretty average against righties, hitting .269/.327/.440.

Martín Pérez was tagged for seven runs in 3 1/3 innings Sunday in a loss to the Rays.

Jun 11   5:11 PM

It's the second time this year that Pérez has allowed seven runs, though unlike the first time a month ago, he took the loss today, falling to 6-2 on the season. He has a 6.69 ERA in seven starts since the beginning of the May, and he has a tough matchup against the Blue Jays coming up next.

Shane McClanahan pitched seven innings of three-run ball Sunday in a win versus the Rangers.

Jun 11   5:11 PM

McClanahan is the first pitcher to 10 wins this year, getting there in his 14th start. This is just the second time that he's allowed more than two runs. His peripherals aren't as strong now as they were before he got hurt last season, but a 92/30 K/BB ratio in 82 2/3 innings is still plenty good.

Wander Franco went 2-for-4 and hit a three-run homer Sunday as the Rays took down the Rangers 7-3.

Jun 11   5:11 PM

The Rays won two out of three in the matchup of the teams with the AL's best records. Franco had gone 27 games without a homer before taking Martín Pérez deep today. He's batting .299/.360/.486 with eight homers overall.

Carlos Rodón (back) is scheduled to throw another live batting practice session on Thursday.

Jun 11   5:11 PM

The Yankees' left-hander faced live hitters on Wednesday without any issue, and if all goes well with Thursday's session it's possible that he could be cleared to begin a lengthy minor league rehab assignment. The 30-year-old hurler has yet to throw a single pitch for the Yankees this season, but he's at least finally trending in the right direction.

Guardians sent RHP Zach Plesac outright to Triple-A Columbus.

Jun 11   5:11 PM

The 28-year-old hurler had been designated for assignment by the Guardians last week, but he passed through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as additional starting pitching depth at the Triple-A level. Prior to his demotion, Plesac had registered a 7.56 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and a 21/11 K/BB ratio over five appearances.
